Couldn't get your point skartik2. The G is better than the D. Smooth focus, brilliant bokeh, nice build quality etc.
Here is a video which compares both the lenses. As you already have a 50mm the extra money may not gave you the feeling. Since 50mm is must have lens and if you loving shooting with it (and you dont use AF as of now), I would strongly recommend to go for the G. Coz I have a 50 and I love it clap:

The "D" lens is a bit sharper and has less distortion. The "G" lense uses an inbuilt focus motor and focuses faster. Check DXO comparizon

Guys, need some help. I am on the verge of taking the plunge and ordering the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 non-vc. Flipkart is offering a 10 % discount on the MRP of 23850 which amounts to INR 21465. Also, there is an offer of 15% cash back if one uses a standard charted credit/debit card. If my understanding is right, its a 15% cash back on 21465 which results in a final price of INR 18245 ? Am I missing something here? It just sounds too good to be true. Hell, the final price would be lesser than a gray market buy I think. My hands are itching to click the order button :D

:OT I am letting go of my 18-105. Interested parties can drop a PM :-)
Just Announced! New Nikon D5300 SLR Camera
The D5300 is the successor to the D5200 and shares with that camera a compact and comfortable form factor that is just right for those who want the image quality and versatility of a DSLR without the bulk. Indeed, the D5300 has advanced in this regard by coming out of the box 2.5 oz lighter than the D5200. It has also upped the size and resolution of its full articulating tilt-swivel LCD monitor to 3.2” and 1037k-dots respectively, which enables clearer image composition and playback of photos and videos. However, the advancements go much deeper than the camera surface. The D5300 houses a 24.2MP DX-format CMOS sensor with a design that omits its optical low-pass filter to enable image capture at its optimal resolution and with the sharpest of details. The lack of a low-pass (or anti-aliasing) filter puts the image quality of the D5300 into the territory of the best Nikon has to offer and when combined with the large selection of compatible F-mount lenses, your photo and video capabilities are exceptional.
Full HD 1080p video capture is also supported by the D5300. Multiple frame rates, including 60p, 30p and cinematic 24p are available i and lower resolution 720p and VGA formats are also provided. Stereo audio via a built-in microphone or an optional external mic can be adjusted manually during recording and full-time autofocus will keep a moving subject in focus throughout your clip. Continuous video clips can be recorded at highest quality for up to 20 minutes and HDMI output enables direct connection to HDTVs.

Does anyone know where I can get a battery grip for the Canon EOS 70D?

I hope this makes you happy :-)

I have ordered battery grips from this site earlier for my Canon 7D. The grips are just perfect & at a fraction of the cost.
If you decide to order then dont get express shipping. Order it via post/Speedpost, & you should get it in around 3 weeks with no custom duties probably :-)

These are the exact differences between D5200 and D5300. There is no deal-breaker or heart-breaker difference here IMO.

Yep seen those differences yesterday :) Would have liked full hd 60p for small slow motion scenes but considering card limitations will anyway be using Atomos Ninja 2 to record instead for regular shoots which does not support 1080 60p.
I believe I got a great deal at Amazon and have no regrets now though I had that initial feeling when I read about the D5300 launch.stupid:
Hi all,
I just thought of buying a tripod for my 500D ,but I see that there are lots of brands and starting from 1500 till 50000. i know manfrotto is the best ,even there there are lots of tripods varying from 4000 till 50000 and price between every model is 200..I really dont know how to decide
some say ball head is the best and some say croma tripod for 2000 is more than enough :Frustrati

Buy the best you can afford. See what type of photography you do and your heaviest combination of your gear would be. Buy a pod with a pay load greater than that.
Ball heads are quicker and easier to adjust than the pan heads.

Good tripods have the following benefits
. Sturdy. Ideally the tripod should be rock steady and not sway. The fewer the joints the better.
. The tripod should not have high frequency resonance, the lower the better. This means that for the same material the heavier the tripod the lower the resonance. Some materials have low resonance, wood being the best followed by carbon fibre. Aluminum and plastic are worse.
. If you mean to carry tripods in the field it should be light the above factors being equal. Here carbon fibre scores massively.
. Last the tripod must be able to carry the load of the camera, lens and the head, for prosumer DSLR with moderate telephoto lens that would be 1+3+.5=4.5kg. Remember the higher the tripod the less stable it is for a given load.
The higher end tripods satisfy all the above conditions hence they cost a bomb, as carbon fibre is expensive. The lower end tripods especially very inexpensive tall tripods are extremely hazardous as the not only sway but can collapse under moderate load.
Ball heads are used to move the camera in three axis while it is mounted on the tripod. Good ones will be easy to maneuver while at the same time resist creep when set. Inexpensive ones may tend to be jerky and creep.
If you need to move the camera precisely then you use a geared head, while if you are using a super telephoto and want to pan fast a gimbal head is the best.
In a few minutes will receive my new Nikkor 18-105 lens in replacement of my old 18-55 for D3100.

Well,
Got myself the EOS 70D yesterday in the 18-55 STM kit avatar. Really wanted the 18-135 STM kit, but I am told that is likely to take at least another 2 weeks to one month. I also got the EF 40mm STM lens.
When enquiring about the camera with the dealer a couple of weeks ago, I had asked if (and when) the original Canon BG-E14 grip for the 70D would become available.
As luck would have it, they were able to get a Canon grip on the same day as they got two 70D's with the 18-55 kit.
So final purchase was:
Canon EOS 70D with EF-S 18-55 IS STM kit
Canon BG-E14 battery grip for EOS 70D
Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM lens
2 x Canon LP-E6 batteries for EOS 70D
Final total cost: Rs. 1,06,000/-.
