The DSLR Thread
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadgets-computers-software/11582-dslr-thread-722.html)
Finally I got my DSLR after so much confusion. I get an email on Friday saying my camera is dispatched and i get a call from their customer support asking me to ignore that email as there was some confusion with their logistics.
However, I still received the camera despite that wrong info from CS executive. Dont know what's going on with them. Whatever, I dont give a darn now that camera is delivered with a nice packing and a FREE camera bag and 4GB card
Took this pic from my mobile
Here are some sample images from my new D5100:)

Congrats Mobike ! That's a highly detailed picture of a lens cap, hop to see high detailed images of other interesting objects soon :D
That Lexar card is probably the same item I have. For any fast action/continuous shots, I'll suggest faster cards , ones that can write at 20-30MB/s , the 45MB/s and 90Mb/s will not be written to faster by the camera , but if you can afford them ,they'll be more future proofed for faster cameras.
That leather-finish bag looks nice for a freebee. Can you post some pictures of the camera inside the bag provide , to get an idea of how large it is inside ? The bag I got was fabric one, never tested it for weather resistance, can fit my D90 + 18-105 as well as some spare batteries, charger, card inside but not the 55-300. So I am wondering if there any cheap bags large enough to fit a little more, or I have to shell out more for branded ones eventually.

Any recommendations for faster cards? Even I was thinking of upgrading to a 16GB card as just in JPG fine image quality, a 4GB can shoot only 800+ images

Pictures below as requested. Even I was suprised to see the leather bag as it is pretty nice quality and decent size. Not too big nor too small
As you can see the main compartment easily fits the D5100 and even a lens hood. The other compartment can store lot of knic-knacks like another small lens ( 35 or 50mm) and battery, USB cable etc. Quite handy to carry it around too.
I have one query to all
Iam planning to sell my brand new 18-55mm VR Kit Lens and buy a 18-105mm VR or 18-135mm VR. I should have done it before buying but, i didnt see the option of just buying the body on Zoomin and my main contention of buying from Zoomin was the " exchange offer" I wanted to get rid of my Oct-2007 Nikon D40X ( Yeah, even i was suprised when i saw the warranty card that it was 5 years old:uncontrol) for which i got a terrific price of 14.5K How much can i expect for the brand new 18-55mm VR kit lens? Which one from 18-105mmVR or 18-135mmVR is a better lens? P.S: I have a 70-300mm Tamaron which is working fine with D5100. Took some sample hand held shots at 300mm and output was fine. So i plan to use this telephoto for sometime. P.S 2: I have already decided to buy the 35mm F 1.8/G in a couple of weeks time

Congrats! Now it is time for you to call/ email them and ask if the camera is ready to be delivered :) will send someone some shivers!
please share some details on the pricing part and if you still recommend to buy from these guys, whether it is worth any money you may have saved (than buying over the counter)
I need some quick advice about Nikon D3100 dslr. Is it a value for money camera and can I get it in a budget of about 22k with the lens of course? Any folks using it could guide me as I am about to get one this week with the aforementioned budget. Any suggestions regarding other dslrs in the range of this budget are welcome.

I mentioned the pricing details in my previous post. But, here you go again
Zoomin Website price : 34,500
If your not exchanging any product, after applying discount this price becomes Rs.30,000
I exchanged my Nikon D40X with 18-55 Kit lens with autofocus NOT working. I got an exchange offer of Rs.14,600 which is deducted from original price. Therefore, I got the D5100 for Rs.19,500 which is not a bad deal at all for exchange a 5-year old camera.
Despite the goof-up, I would recommend buying from them as there may have been some logistical issue in my case. However, if anyone is exchanging camera, do take proper receipt ( I didnt take a receip when i gave my camera to courier guy as i was in a hurry to go out of the home).
Infact, I think my camera may have not reached them yet:D
Btw, Some better model cameras like D60 is being quoted lower than the D40X. Exchange for D60 is ~10K
Anyways, I am happy to have gotten rid of my old camera at a good price and happy with new product including packaging, freebies etc.
Courier used for sending me packing material and pick up of my camera : Aramex
Courier used to send me the D5100 : FedEX

D3100 does not have a focus motor so will not Autofocus on all Nikon lenses ( G lens) , If budget is limited and you are not averse to used Camera up a budget a little and for D90 there is one for sale on JJMF. Another option is used Canon 500D in same budget ( 20K +/- 2K) also available for resale at same place.

Hi Mobike008
I can recommend the Sandisk Ultra Class 10 16GB card , which is available easily for around 900 Rupees:

I am using it on my D600 (actually using 2) and it is quite fast.
The buyback price of the 18-55 Lens should be around 5K if it is in perfect original condition and unused.
A new 18-105 VR costs around 12-13K, and the dealer can offset the buyback price of the 18-55.
I have used the 18-105 on my D90 earlier and it was a decent lens. Only drawback was during low light shooting/ Night shots.
I'm using a Canon 40D and would like to upgrade it. I shoot mostly Landscapes and Portraits. Looking at Selling my 40D and Buy a Used Canon 60D.
It is a tough choice to make, Since the sensible upgrade would be a 7D, But a Used 7D costs about 55,000 Rupees, whereas a used 60D is available for ~ 35,000 - 40,000 Rupees.
Would you think it would be wise to go in for a 60D or save up more and get the 7D instead? Advice please :)

19.3K for a 18-105mm VR:Frustrati. I dont think i want to spend that kind of money at this moment. Had it been 12-13K, would have bought it after selling the kit lens.

You can check jjmehta forum for anybody selling their kit 18-105 lens if you want cheaper or otherwise other online selling sites like olx. I think you should be able to get it easily.
But why do you want to sell the 18-55? keep that and plonk the 12-13k in 55-200 or something like that?

Sure, I will check the forums you mentioned.
When you have a 18-105 or 135mm. 18-55mm becomes redundant as the former gives you much more range
My ideal lens set which i will build over time is as follows ( In sequence)
a) Nikkor 35mm ( Next purchase)
b) Nikkor 18-105mm or 18-135mm VR ( Sometime soon)
c) 70-300 mm Nikkor VR ( Currently have a Tamaron, so this lens wont happen atleast for a year)
d) 11-24mm Tokina or any other good brand (Last priority)

Sandisk Ultra or Extreme series , 8/16GB as per your shooting need. Read the specs, get something that can write at 20MB/s at least, preferably 30MB/s or more for future proofing. Typically read speeds are advertised, which are higher, hence look for write speed specifically.

Thanks , it looks just wee bit bigger than what I have, with more depth.
Nice sized pockets on the outside too.

The lens should go for 5-5.5k. 18-135 doesn't have VR as far as I remember, and it is discontinued as well.

Yeah, that'll be fun (not for them!), if they don't have their inventory/order books sorted, they'll dispatch you another D5100.

Lowest prices I see for D3100 kit are around 27-28k. The Canon 1100D is closer your budget, remember seeing 23k somewhere.

G lenses are AF-S , so they will autofocus on the entry level bodies. Used cameras are better off bought after inspection, if buying from new/untrusted sources.

Since you already have the 70-300, you'll be overlapping the range. It might save you some trouble at some times, when you need the extra focal length but don't have time to switch to the 70-300 , but is that worth the trade for you ? I suggest you buy the Tamron/Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 instead at a little more cost than the 18-105.

That last one , Tokina 11-16 is on many a wishlist ! Still, I feel you will soon want a fast lens, so if you are switching the 18-55, go for the faster 16-50/17-50 options instead of 18-105.
Between the D3100 and the 1100D, which is a better buy? I mean for a novice like me.
