What did you do to your kit lense?

I have put them up for sale and should be off my hands in a week or so.

Here it is:
Full details on the new Nikon D5200 are now available on Nikon Imaging:

This model should also be available in India within 7-8 days of the global launch (Today).

wonderful specs. It renders the D3200 useless.

Would be interesting to see how Nikon will price it. I think it would be in D90 region and they would still retain the cheaper D5100.

I said 550D not 500D. All 550Ds are made in Japan.

No longer , Canon camera body unit were not impacted by Tsunami but they have drawn a lesson and diversified manufacturing base to derisk, Now there are lots of 550D from Taiwan , When I purchased 500D in early 2010 everything was made in Japan except lens caps which were made in Taiwan.
But I think it should not matter Taiwan has a matured semiconductor and component industry and moved up in value chain long back
About the psycological part of buying made in Taiwan, If people are willing to pay 50,000 for iPhone made in China what's wrong with Canon made in Taiwan ?

My feeling is that they will phase out both the D3100 and the D5100 very soon and keep only the D3200 and the D5200. My expectation on the D5200 price is around 45K-47K INR, so that the differential over the D3200 is maintained, while it is still midrange between the D3200 and the D7000.
The D90 has been discontinued in other markets and should follow here too.

Nikon D5200 also updated on the Nikon India site too, though price is not yet mentioned.

Whether it will render the D3200 'useless', we have to wait and watch.
Meanwhile, D5200 is priced at 46k INR.

Does Nikon install self destruct switch into their cameras? Does it explode in Mission Impossible style when the next camera is released?:D

My Olympus E-500 (2005 model) is still very usable. I use it as my backup dSLR whenever my primary camera is not with me.

I have a Tamron 10-24 which is canon mount.
Now I own a Nikon DSLR.
I have two options
1. Sell the lens, put in some money and get tamron 10-24 for Nikon
2. Use a Canon to Nikon converter and lose AF and metering(perhaps)
3. Try an exchange.

Is there any forum or someplace where I can offer to exchange this lens for a used Nikon mount 10-24?
If not, what is the best place to go sell your used lenses in Delhi/NCR area? Is there a "used lens" market per se?
I can go there, and try and find an ultra wide for Nikon mount.
If a shop has a big collection, it would seem they may have something used which would be of interest to me.
But I unable to find any big "used" dealer in Delhi

D7XXX, D5XXX, D7XXX are targeted at different customer levels

D3XXX is entry level DX
D5XXX is upper entry level (eg 1000D vs 400D)
Then you have the D7XXX which is equivalent to the 7D, etc.,

The D3200 self destruct switch will activate when the D3300 is launched. At that point, the camera will beep 7 times, with 1 second gap.
This will be followed by 0.25 gap 20 beeps,. and finally with a 10 second long beep.
At that point, there will be a small puff of smoke from the camera, as its LCD melts away to nothingness.

Have you tried jjmehta.com forums? I had couple of items which I used with D50, but were useless with D300. I listed those items there and they were sold pretty quickly.

And before buying Nikon 10-24; try Tokina 11-16. It is supposedly the best UWA for DX format...

Thank you ntomer. I will try that route.
Will see if it works for me

Yes http://www.jjmehta.com/forum/index.php is good place ,
There is a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X PRO DXII Nikon mount for sale there but I feel Sigma 10-20 is a better choice in UWA , 1 - 2 mm matter at wide end.

Some of the Sigma lenses are really good contrary to general image of Sigma Perticularly Sigma EX lens with HSM moters such as Sigma 30 F1.4 , Sigma 85 F1.8 and Sigma 10-20.

Hi Tanveer,

For the swap of the Canon lens, you can try Dass Studio in CP which deals in both Canon and Nikon.
Alternatively you can also try with the showroom Kumarjee in DT City Center mall on MG road - the same guy owns both the Canon and Nikon showrooms (adjacent to each other).
Or third option, post the lens for sale through OLX and sell it directly to an end-user.
(You will realize a better price with the third option and the difference can be quite substantial.)

(PS: Price for D5200 officially announced as Rs 46,950 - so my guess was correct!
New bodies are just ways for companies to make more money from potential customers. Real photographers still use even 5-8 year old bodies and still get beautiful shots as Photography is an art which comes from the heart and no amount of technology can replace the eye/ heart of a photographer! Better tech is only a consolation for novices like us to think that our photography can improve!)

Nikon India site already showing D5200. However, it does not indicate any price.
@Behemoth: Could you please share the source of the price info?
