Not quite - I am looking to add a second fill flash to the off camera SB700. And TTL automatic on both. Else, I have to run both in manual, and I don't want to do that. If only the second was to be in manual, I could manage, but it won't work like that, it will fire with the pre flashes used for setting up the SB700 in TTL.
And regardless of how good the Nissin is, I won't put it on the camera hotshoe and risk the camera electronics.
Guys, any feedback about Lexar CF cards (Lexar Platinum II, etc) ? How do they compare with Sandisk Ultra / Extreme ?
Speed is not a criteria, .. I am asking form a reliability PoV.

IMO both are equally reliable though there have been reports of data loss with Lexar. Those may be freak incidents.
I prefer Sandisk because they are available as legal imports in India while Lexars are grey market. I do not see an authorised distributor or retailer for India on Lexar's site.
Big dilemma in choosing between d5200/d7000 or good old d90.
I want to buy a prime and a telephoto zoom lens. If I go for d7000/d90 I can save money for the AF mount lens, which will not autofocus on d5200. Equivalent AF-S lens + d5200 will be costing roughly d7000+kit lens money.
Which will be a better choice? Please help me guys.

I finally took the bait and bought my first DSLR. I got a Canon EOS 600D with 18-135mm lens for Rs 47,350. Found a deal (posted last week) on ebay and picked it up finally. It just got delivered today and since I'm at work I haven't checked it out yet stupid:. The box was open by the seller, my guess is to fill the invoice details in the warranty card (am I correct?).
I will be buying a medium sized bagpack for it soon. Also the next lens will be a 50mm 1.8 prime, soon to follow and then a telephoto (non-L, cant afford as of now) to follow. I know photography can be an expensive hobby, so I plan to take it slowly.
I have a couple of questions that I would love you hear your thoughts about.
1. How do you guys handle your caps? oops sorry the Lens cap? My prev camera (the FZ100) had a string that attached it to the camera body, but that was a fixed lens. So with changable lens where do you guys hang it? I am a lil paranoid of the lens taking a beating with my rough usage.
2. I realised that most lens has a different diameter. So if a 18-135mm lens has a 67mm diameter, the 50mm has a 52mm (i think). And this causes a problem when tryin to buy Filters for the camera. I am looking at a CPL and UV (for lens protection) filter primarily. Guess I will see which lens I use more often and which one needs the filter and then order. What say?

get the D7000 with kit lens and a 50mm f1.8d and later add the telephoto lens.

- make sure you have a complete invoice bill with VAT details or else then warranty wont be accepted in most cases.
- and about the filters,get the biggest diameter filter(67mm in this case) and get step down rings to fit smaller sizes.

I also opted for D7000 ( i already have D3100). D7000 is good for those who are moving from beginner to amateur

Thanks for your reply buddy. The Invoice has the TIN number of the seller, I guess that counts as VAT details right?

I am actually trying to find out the grey market price for the same lens for nikkon and the nikkon 18-200 through friends in banglore- at jayesh. Did you check up the rates there?

18-135 should serve you for most occasions. Dont rush to buy telephoto (L vs Non-L). Prime is fine as you dont spend much.
Take some time. I would say at least 6 months to a year to get hold of the camera and more importantly take notice of what
you shoot more often. Based on that your needs for lenses should get refined.
Along with spending time on the field, I think you should also spend some time off the field, understanding the basics of
post-processing. You dont need to buy fancy s/w. Canon's DPP makes a very good start point to learn.
Having said that do note post processing cannot make a badly taken photo look good, but surely can make a well snapped image look better !

Thanks for the reply Ampere. Yes, I was feeling exactly what you have suggested. I will buy the prime for now and will wait for sometime before buying a telephoto and macro lens. This is one of the biggest reason I wanted a decent kit lens (read more range than 18-55) so that I can take my time decide on what I want next.
I did try playing around with it during the hectic weekdays and found myself hunting for settings, so clearly my learning has just begun.
About the post processing software, I was always fascinated what some people to achieve using them. Pics go from good to WOW! I have to learn that. But thing is for that I will need to upgrade my pc first, my current system is a 6 year old Dell lappie with one leg in the grave.
Any recommendations on selecting a bagpack for the kit? I will be carrying this 18-135 kit, 50mm and the other accessories like charges, Cards etc. But may need space for a bigger lens in the future. So shud I start small and go big when the need arises? or buy something future proof now ?

Buy a good one. I'd suggest a Kata bag. It wont be cheap though. Will cost you about 8000.

You can go to Kata's website to know about the bag. I'd have bought it if I had gone with my earlier plan of getting the D7000.
A question on lenses. I see the market is full of F2.8 lenses for 35 mm and lower. I thought the lower focal length you go, easier it is to increase the aperture size. I see mostly F1.4-1.8 in 50mm and above.
Is it difficult to make wide angles in larger apertures or is it just not needed? I have never had a wide angle lens but am researching which one to buy.
