Even I find such half shawdowed areas hard to photograph as the light source is pretty confusing. I guess the closest that can be adjusted within the camera is the WB and rest can be done by magic of Photoshop:) |
And that is the "other" problem. Do not know how to use Photoshop or lightroom or the ilk:Frustrati Have to take out some time in life to learn these "tools".
Thanks for the link. These days I've been watching Ted Forbes' video podcasts that are really interesting. He talks about lot of things about the art of photography, famous images/photographers etc. I've to admit that I never had any artistic inclination and could hardly appreciate when people explain images so graphically but at least I'm trying to develop a taste for it now. Maybe that is also a prerequisite for making good photographs :)

I tried shooting (the sunlit part was in background). None of the pics were properly exposed! Now the question is how to properly expose in such scenarios! |
Hi Joslicx,
One of the ways to get better photos in such a lighting situation is to use the HDR (High Dynamic range) function in some DSLRs (the D5100 also has it). In this function basically the same shot is exposed twice, once with High exposure setting (to capture the dark areas well and once with lower exposure (to capture the brighter areas). After this, both the shots are compiled in camera into one shot to retain the details of both the dark areas and the bright areas. However, the catch is that there are two shutter releases which happen and there would be a gap of around 200ms between the two and any movement in the subjects will create a blurred/ multi image effect (in the second image you can see what I mean!)
Below are some pics I had taken with the HDR mode with my D600.

I wanted to buy the D3100 with 18-55 lens but my budget is limited to 25k max. Can I get one in that range from the grey (say Gaffar)market?

You get d5100 for less than 30k on ebay nowadays with bill and warranty. Have you checked there for any deals?

The grey market is really not worth the risk. And there is no longer a huge differential in price. Indian DSLR and kit retail prices are very close to U.S. retail rates - buying grey or from abroad doesn't make sense anymore.
Got myself a Nikon D90. Its a huge upgrade from my current Nikon D60. Loving every bit of it.
Nothing less than 33k for 5100 and 28k for 3100.
looking for a dSLR bag to hold the cam with kit lens and prime and smaller accessories like memory and charger.
also need it to be future proof as i may get a telephoto lens later.
did find the Lowepro nova 180 AW,a good choice!(at 2.9k)
any better choices below 3.5k range that suits my needs.

If you are open to Pre Used stuff, you could take a look at the buy and Sell section of JJ Mehta. An advertisement I came across there.

Boought this beauty to replace my kit lens. Love the double focal range it offers and is pretty sharp at even the longest range.
Now this will serve as my daylight lens and swap it for 35mm for low light pictures:thumbs up

Are you sure about that. My Olympus OMD E5 was at least 20% cheaper in the US then in India. Not a DSLR, but I did quite a few checks before I moved from Kansas City to Delhi and I "stocked up" on electronic equipement because it was considerable cheaper in the US.
If you need to order from Delhi some of that probably gets wiped out by P&H and possible custom duties, but still the difference can be huge;

I've been using a Lowepro Flipside 300 for a while now and I find it pretty good. fits in most of the stuff in a single bag .. attached is the bag with it's what it can hold ..

It is not that much in cameras these days unless you are looking at deals Costco or similar shops.
Last month OM-D was selling at $1299 at US shops like Amazon and B&H. Same time some members picked up OM-D in India for Rs.69,000. That's almost same price. Now I see there is a $100 discount in US shops thanks to holiday shopping season.
