Re: The DSLR Thread

Hello guys,

After going through pages of this thread and extending my budget a budget a bit, I have finalized on D5100. Getting a good deal on ebay. have a few questions here:

1.Is it safe to buy on ebay? (I know i've seen the new ebay "safe" transaction ads) But I wanted to know from the experiences here.
2. The seller that I'm planning to buy has a positive feedback rating of 98.5%. Is that OK by the ebay standards?
3. Anything to worry about Nikon A**?

Thanks.

Ebay is perfectly safe,I even picked my iPhone from eBay only,so no issues there.
I always try to buy stuff from power sellers as they standby their stuff.
98% should be good, but also check how many feedbacks are there and check why was the negative feedback given.
Hope it helps
Cheers

I have always preferred FLIPKART over Ebay. Flipkart sells only brand new products, so there is no concern. I have had not-so-good experience of Ebay personally.

Agree. Flipkart is a more reliable. I had an experience of a seller on ebay selling me a copy of counterfeit software. I did raise a claim with ebay and my money was refunded back. Basically online sellers like flipkart control the quality of product and services wheras ebay is just a platform for any individual to sell any product. Ebay does take action when a complaint is made by the buyer but it does become a bit messy when the seller contests the claim. Having said that there are also reliable sellers on ebay and one needs to verify the sellers ratings for a reliable purchase.

Thanks Schoudhury. Yes this guy is a power seller & the negative feedbacks are mainly to do with the delivery services. Nothing so far regarding the quality of the product.

Even I first checked on Flipkart. But there was a difference of 4K+ in the prices which was hard to ignore. And off late I have seen the prices at Flipkart not among the lowest as it used to be. Looks to me that they have taken their initial success a bit too seriously.

Re: The DSLR Thread

Request your help/suggestions..

Between the Canon 550D and Nikon D3200, I am looking more keenly at the Nikon (though not finalized). I have no prior experience with cameras (only 'camera' i have is the 8Mp shooter on my Note )

Between the 2, which one would be suitable for a beginner like me?
Also, appreciate advice on the lens to start with.

I am seeing a deal for 39500/- on Ebay for D3200+18-105 lens, is this deal good?

Both are from different levels of Nikon and Canon.

Canon 550D can be compared with Nikon D5100 not Nikon 3200. In above comparison, D550D would be a better camera in terms of features

That deal for D3200 with 18-105 is indeed good. Go for it

Seems like everyone here is on a Nikon D5100 buying spree

Btw, I got meself a Nikon 35mm F 1.8/G AF-S prime lens. I must confess, it is worth every penny of Rs.12,200 ( Wholesale Dealer Price) that I spent on it. In low light, its focus is mindblowing fast and smooth. Got a few test shots which came out really well.

This picture taken with kit lens of Nikon D5100. Not bad..eh?

Re: The DSLR Thread

Congratulations for 5100.
You can give me best review about the kit lens at 35mm and the 35mm.
If I get 6k for the kit lens then will go for the 35mm one

Congrats on the lense. Even I am contemplating this lense for my D5100. I am planning to sell my kit lense(Not sure) and buy this one. It would be great if you can just somehow summarize the improvements that you observed. I know its a prime and low light performance would be great but other than that any nice things about this lense would keep me motivated to buy it

Re: The DSLR Thread

looks like its a hot selling combo to many including me..
nikon D5100 with 35mm prime.

like mentioned the low lighting is awesome and the bookeh effect is so cool.even a total amateur can get interesting clicks using this lens.
other than that, love the quick clicks i can do with it.no lags between shots.
and lastly is the sharp images, especially compared to the kit 18-55mm lens.

OT:btw, how do you guys post pics here,i tried and it says reached max. kb limit!!

A better camera in one line sounds very subjective.
Most reviews say 5100 is a better camera than 3200 and is marginally cheaper too. I don't want to start a Nikon vs. Canon debate, but D5100 is often pitched against 600D, and based on my research was a better feature fit for me.

Thanks. There will be a huge difference as kit lens aperture will be atleast 3 stops smaller at 4 or 4.5F ( Kit lens if i am not wrong comes with 3.5-5.6 F aperture range)

So there is no comparison of kit lens 35mm focal length clarity, sharpness and output with 35mm focal length of 35mm prime lens

35mm F 1.8/G will be one of your best investment. Trust me

Here are the benefit of a 35mm 1.8/G prime lens

1) Super Light weight lens
2.) Extremely fast focusing even in darkest conditions
3.) comes with SWM ( Silent Wave Motor). No sound during focusing
4) Sharpest images that you can imagine. Worth the price you spend compared to many expensive lens out there in the market
5) Great Bokeh effect

Max upload limit per image is 1MB. And, max upload limit per post is 20 images.

Here are a couple of sample shot taken with my new 35mm F 1.8/G under almost pitch dark conditions. I am very happy with the results
