I second that. I upgraded from 7D to 5DIII in early-March and 5DIII just blows away 7D just as my old 7D blew away a PNS (Powershot G9). Very difficult to shoot poorly with 5DIII and the proportion of wow pictures is just too high with 24-105mm kit lens, and even higher with my prime (85 mm f/1.8). 5DIII has really made me extremely happy. By comparison, I used to get a reasonable proportion of iffy shots with my 7D.

Till about late 2011, for Canon, the price difference between Canon's highest APS-C (7D) and cheapest FF (5DII) was substantial. However, with the launch of 6D, the price difference has narrowed and though still quite some, not very substantial. That amount of 30-35K justifies a FF upgrade to at least 6D. Plus, the 6D+24-105mm L EF lens gets one a Canon L series lens (for whatever it is worth) plus a FF lens and camera. That is worth it.

How about 7D MKII versus the entry level full frames (6D). I am not a wild life person. So any way full makes more sense to me. But just wanted to understand. I always thought, there existed a niche for 7D. That was mainly reach and a smaller body which were very useful in wild life.

Having owned both 7D and 5DIII, I can say that 5DIII is not heavier than 7D but you can see the specs anyway. In upgrading, I in fact looked at the weight of 7D+15-85 EF-S and compared it with 5dIII+24-105mm. The weight gain was perhaps 100-150gm more for 5DIII. However, putting on a 85mm 1.8 lens (490gm) makes 5D lighter than 7D. I never bought primes with 7D and remained with the kit.

From various reviews, it seems 6D is nearly as good as 5D. Reviewers seem to agree that 6D is a stripped version of 5DIII and Canon seems to shame customers into buying 5DIII.

7D is supposed to be fast. As to wildlife, the only one I shoot regularly is my son, and he is quite timid.

My personal preference would be 6D over 7D or even 7DII.

Thanks. I am right now content with the humble 550D. Currently building up accessories. Its only 3+ years on the camera. So would wait for a year or two and then think of an upgrade. But I don't plan to give away the body. Rather use it as a second body.

Hope by then we get a 10-22 equivalent for full frame. Today I only see primes in the list.

That's a good idea to store personal information. Can you please elaborate some more of this feature? Also, it would be great if you can share some links which show how to do it. I had never heard of this feature.

Ampere, the 7DII is not out yet and I have never tried a 6D, so I cannot compare those cameras. But I will take a full frame with decent AF over a crop frame with a faster fps any day.

Full frame equivalents for the 10-22 are the 16-35 f2.8 and 17-40 f4 (cheaper of the two).

Another thing, I have even used a 10-22 with a full frame after removing the rear plastic covering but it goes to a minimum of only 12-13mm before it fouls with the mirror. The results however are not that great. Just google 10-22 on a 5DII and you will find the trick.

@Robi, Thats what are my intentions too. Sorry, slipped on the 16-35. Didn't realise about it. Maybe the day I upgrade to a full frame will exchange my 10-22 to 16-35.

Which is better of the three: Nikon D90, D7000 OR D300s ?

Sure. Here's how to go about it - (I have a Nikon D5000, so this is the procedure for that Camera. But it will be more or less the same for all Nikon models.)

1. Press the menu button on the camera
2. Scroll to the SETUP-MENU.
3. Scroll down to the item named 'IMAGE COMMENT' and press OK.
4. Select the 'INPUT COMMENT' menu item and enter the details using the on-screen alphabets, numbers and symbols. Use the delete button to erase wrong values.
5. Once the comment is entered, press OK to save the comment; and return to the previous menu.
6. Scroll one more item down and mark the check box 'ATTACH COMMENT'.
7. That's all. :thumbs up

What would you like to shoot? And most importantly, what is your budget? Of the three I would pick the D7000. But if you do have more information then we can do a more detailed analysis.

Unless the 3100 is broken beyond repair, why? Only an upgrade to a full frame from this modern camera would be meaningful, that too for some applications in the right hands.

Bought D5100 with 50mm f1.8G lens. Yet to turn it on and view from it. Need to explore it. Happy soul!!

Got it for INR 5499 from http://www.ebay.in/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....m=200909838238. Couldnt find better deal for a quick delivery as some clicking opportunity is there for next week. Non TTL versions were as cheap as INR 3500.
