But, iirc, they were all LTM mounts and not exactly canon's own. |
To be exact, Leica M39 Screw Mount. If I remember correct that too. Need to check again.

Yep, LTM is Leica Thread Mount or M39 :). Wonderful lenses and still perform very well.

Interesting topic! Canon actually made a Canon 50mm f/0.95 lens for Leica with LTM mount. "ThatNikonguy" has a video posted in youtube showing the lens mounted on a modified 5D2 body and some sample shots. Cool stuff :) Wish someone could come up with a easy and cheap solution to be able to use those wonderful old EXOTIC lenses on current cameras.

Navin,
Yes, that's one of the rare lenses to come by :(. And these lenses are used quite a bit on current mirrorless cameras and the older Leica/Russian film cameras. One of the reasons why I shoot exclusively with mirrorless lens cameras these days. Easy to mount these old beauties without any modification by using an adapter. And here's another interesting piece of history:

Can you please let me know what adapter needs to be bought to have this? perhaps an ebay link?
At last I purchased my DSLR now after watching for 2 - 3 years

Handycams are definitely better in terms of smooth zoom, video encoding and stabilization, operational controls etc. You really don't need a 12 MP sensor to make a good movie clip.
DSLRs and P&S are catching up but they will always be a compromise over handycams.
But if you want something that works in both worlds, a newer (even if lower spec'ed) DSLR will be better than an older but better spec'ed DSLR. Another thing you could do is buy a video optimized lens for the DSLR. Panasonic makes such lenses. Canon's 18-135 STM lens is also reported to be super smooth.
Problem I have run with P&S is there is little control on focus, exp compensation etc in movie mode. Once recording starts, you can not change most of the settings, they are either frozen, or decided automatically by camera. |
Thank you ! So P&S completely ruled out. Good handycams are available at around 20k itslef i guess. But as you mentioned, I like to have something good in both worlds :) I'l try for the 18-135 lens but seems a little out of budget for me right now!. Another thing that I've been thinking about is the zoom - 18-55 means nearly 3x zoom right? But I heard in Canon 600 D, there's a provision for around 10x zoom (maybe digital zoom) but clarity is kept intact! I read this in a review, but i'm not sure. Have to check it myself at some store.

You can consider Nikon 5100 with that budget. Very good camera. It shoots full HD movie and has got provision for external voice input. Price with kit lens should be around 34K. |
Thank you ! 5100D is also in my consideration but I came across in many reviews that 600D has better video capabilities. So if it is so, I might go with the 600D itself as video is quite an important factor to me.
Flipkart is having an awesome deal for the 600D ~Rs. 1000 off on MRP plus - 16 GB SD card, tripod, Camera bag, 58MM UV filter, etc free and another 5% off if you use a credit card. Looks tempting. Offer valid till May 31st.
Cheers!
Some posts back, we were discussing EOS 7D II. It seems from some recent posts on canonrumor that it may be announced in 2013 but may be available only in 2014. Canonrumor also posts that Canon launches in 2013 include 70D and `several lenses'.
As the site is `canonrumor', this is only speculation.

Hey Maverick,
Sorry if my post confused you a bit.:) I made that suggestion to the member just to negotiate better with the shop owner. However, these days Flipkart is no longer the cheapest option. So go ahead and get it from the Dass showroom, if you think they are good and reliable.
Cheers ! |
Thanks Ajay.
Now, I too got bit by the shutter Bug. :D
Got it from Canon sales point only finally. 34850 with extra 16 GB Class 4 + Nylon Carry case+ Lens cleaner+ I Discover 6.5' Tripod.
Stopped thinking if this was a good deal or not...
I became occupied more than required nowadays in my office it seems. Took time to respond you.
Thanks for the advice anyways.

Yes, a pity, Because now Nikon will have less incentive to launch its D400 in the next few months. They will wait and milk D7100 sales before they come up with a pro-DX model.
Hi all
I have been a silent observer of this wonderful thread. After watching for over two years and comparing different cameras I have taken the plunge. Purchased Canon 600D with kit lens from flipkart. Got some freebies too. Now I am in search of the nifty fifty. Wondering why it is not available for less than 7200/-? One more zoom may be 70-300 IS USM after six months. My old camera was H-50 which is still with me. Thanks for all of you for providing wonderful gyan about DSLR.!
I have seen torture tests of cameras but never one as extreme as this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=TBB-CvqjdCE
Just check this video where pro photographer puts his Nikon D3s thru hell. Drops on hard ground, drops into mud, under a shower, freezing it in a plastic container full of water, dropping it off the roof of a moving car (in a bag), and last but not the least, a true trial by fire. He puts it in a pan along with some paper, adds what seems to be lighter fuel and sets fire to the paper. The plastic parts of the camera melt but the damn thing works!
Guess what? After all this the camera STILL worked! Now this is one TOUGH camera.
I was gobsmacked. A beautiful D3s no less. It's not my camera and money but I still winced and cringed every time he tortured the camera. What a waste! Why do people do this to such beautifully made precision instruments?

Most of the people who use such expensive equipment need it to make a living (though not all). The subject may not be a still object/person in a garden of roses but something in a place that resembles that video. That is just a video of what the camera can handle. I remember sometime back reading/seeing a similar review of Canons 5D and 1D series. No prizes for guessing which came out intact.

This an extreme test all right. Way outside the parameters that the camera was designed to operate in. The fact that it continues to switch on and work even, if it isn't perfectly, is amazing. Cannot help but admire such a camera.
