I read a review somewhere on 18-200 . There is a small downside to this lens . As the focal length increases , the image sharpness decreases . This lens has its own sweet spot . It is good if you are looking for a fit and forget type of lens. What is your opinion?

30K was a long stretch & it would never end with that . I opted for D5100 since I liked the rotating screen, video capabilities.

I think I got a good deal for (Nikon D5100 16.2 Megapixels Digital SLR Camera + Black (Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens + 4GB + Carrycase), all the inclusive for 25k INR on ebay today.

But 18-200 is too expensive - around Rs. 65000, more than double the price of 18-140 - Rs.24000.

Looks like Apple is in no mood to update Aperture. I have been reading rumours for Aperture 4 for a long time. And now the latest is that it is being field tested along with Mac-Pro. But in the meantime, LR4 and 5 have come up and LR5 seems to have way more features. A look at pricing also speaks a lot. All the more reasons to switch?

I switched to Aperture from iPhoto recently, and it is quite capable as an editor, and brilliant as organiser. I recently got the entire Nik suite, and using it as a plug in for Aperture when needed, all my post processing needs are well covered. I see no reason to switch.

I have been using Aperture for more than 4 years. I have not seen any major feature enhancements to the tool set. Meanwhile LR has made some great strides. The LR community is quite active. I have not seen the same level activity in Apple community. Hence the doubt if Apple has roadmap for this product.

Got myself a EOS 70D with 18-135 IS STM kit lens + 50mm f1.8 II prime + manfrotto MB SB390-7BB Veloce VII Camera Bag - total damage INR 1,03,000/-

D7100 vs EOS 70D was a very tough decision. But finally decided to go for the latter due to the excellent AF and video capabilities. Though the D7100 does have a better image quality, but for a normal enthusiast I found the image quality good enough. (of course an eagle eye purist will disagree to this).

Overall I am very happy. Will test the kit next week during a much needed vacation!!

A zoom lens that offers a more than 11x range of focal length is bound to be a compromise on image quality. Around 3 to 4 is the best (24-70 or 70-200 or 24-105), if you really have to get a zoom. Lower is better.

You can't have your cake and eat it too ;-)

Can you comment on how is the focussing and zooming operations of STM lens.
Does it clearly feel different than standard manual zooming lens as mentioned in some of the reviews.

I have been bitten by the DSLR bug recently.

However, I am not sure which DSLR should I buy Nikon D5300 or Canon T5i(700D)

Reasons to go for D5300

1. WiFi Enabled
2. Better photo quality and sensor (24MP) and HDR capabilities (as per reviews on YouTube)

Reasons to go for T5i(700D)

1. Much cheaper (about SG$300 = INR 14,000)
2. Touchscreen, which the reviews say make it far easier to use
3. Familiarity with Canon system, I have a Canon IXUS 220HS

The freebies I am getting with both are same - DSLR Bag, 2 SD Cards (8 and 32GB), Tripod and a Dry Cabinet

Both are with 18-55mm Kit Lens. I might purchase a 50mm Prime lens six months later.

At the end of the day, is the Nikon D5300 photo quality so much better than the T5i (700D), that I should spend an additional SG$300? What do you guys think?

Also, am I missing on any important consideration?

With that much of difference, 700D is a sure buy. Both cameras are similar in terms of most of the core features.

I have D5300, image quality is sure very good but not good enough to pay 14k more.

In India, 700D is more expensive than D5300.
