Re: "Make your TV smart" devices

Even I use ScreenCast feature to hook up my cell phone with Sony TV. Works seamlessly. Of course, your phone and TV set need to be connected to the same wi-fi network.

Re: "Make your TV smart" devices

Been using google Chromecast on my TV since 3 months.

Mainly used to stream videos and occasionaly movies from my Tab/Mobile to TV. Used both Local casting and remote casting (youtube etc.).

Though i have a very peculier problem.

There is a "Cast screen" option on my android phones (Moto G2 and Samsung Grand 2). In both the phones this functionality doesnt work and fails to detect the Chromecast device.

However apps like Localcast, youtube etc. work perfectly!

Re: "Make your TV smart" devices

I have been using Western Digital WDTV Live streaming media player for more than 3 years. Bought it online for Rs. 6200 and it is really worth it. You can cast screen from your mobile, 2 usb ports, one optical audio out etc. It can almost play all the video and audio formats. it has excellent sub title support.

Someone I know faced the same issue in his Samsung Phone (S3, I think). Turned out that it was due to some permissions being blocked by his work organisation since he used the phone to access his corporate email/ network.

His Samsung tab works perfectly, however.

Re: "Make your TV smart" devices

I use Apple TV and watch almost all the online videos via inbuilt apps or pairing it with iPhone/iPad. Found it so convenient that when we changed our recently, I got a basic full HD set instead of one with SMART features.

Thanks a lot for pointing to your thread.
Now I can have a feature benchmark to measure against!

Thanks for the addition to my list, reading about it - it looks like similar to Asus O!Play.

The chromecast app has a cast screen option that works well. The cast screen option under the phone's display settings doesn't work for me too.

Anytime. Let us know how you get on. By the way, I now use an ICS-based ROM rather than the jellybean one in the screenshots. This is to solve issues with netflix. My next project is to replace my existing media storage (USB-connected externl HDD) by some sort of NAS solution.

Re: Google / Android TV project

Have a question regarding chromecast.
If I purchase and download a movie from Google Play movies, and wish to play the same using chromecast on my television, will it stream the movie from web or from my device?

Haven't tried this myself, but fairly sure it would do it from the web.

The person who started the movie could leave the house mid-way through, and it would continue to play.

Re: Google / Android TV project

Been using SONY 2017, 55x8200e, with inbuild chromecast and Android 7.0 Nougat version.
Useful for casting as well directly playing from Net. Found the WIFI signal/reception good enough so i am not bothering to put ethernet from router.
So TV is not idiot box now, i am referring as 55 " mobile and is great for casting and with amazing KODI ( i am casting from mobile) for watching everything on the net opens newer vistas.

Since you are using Kodi on Android TV, one question here: Does your TV do the transcoding of any videos that are say in a NAS?

I have Plex, but that wouldn't transcode directly from a NAS.

Re: Google / Android TV project

Guys my chrome-cast device isn't powering ON. I'd bought it on Flipkart in end-Jan.

Can't find much info on where do I go for warranty claims. Please help!

Called Google's 1800 number but I'm on hold since 15 minutes!
