Are there any DVD Libraries in Bangalore which stock BluRay disks ?
I would think of getting a BlueRay player (Read as PS3 ) once DVD libraries start stocking BluRays.

Well i haven't seen any yet - maybe because buying bluray movies in India is a joke at 2800 rs.!!
If you have strong connection (read relative close friend) abroad, who keeps coming and going, or if you keep travelling a lot, then get a US/Euro PS3 and get blurays from abroad. I have got blurays from US at an average of 20usd per movie, which is great

Also the Ps3 only supports original ps2 and ps1 games and most of us have chipped playstations.

There is a section on the playstation website where you can enter a title and see if its compatible on the ps3 or not.

I am sorry guys for being such a pest in this thread but i dint get what this chipped playstation means?? I plan to buy a PS3 and wanted to know which is the best place now to procure it? i.e here or the US? If i buy a ps3 locally i.e. 40 GB i wont be able to play PS2 subs? What advantages of the 60 & 80 gb PS3 other then the HDD over the 40 Gb

Usually in India everyone who had a PS2 or PS1 had it chipped and bought pirated games for their systems. These will not work on the PS3. Original games will work but only if they are of the correct region. That is PAL games will work only on PAL systems

I believe most PS3 games are region free so thats not a problem.

Bluray movies are also region protected so you might not be able to play movies bought from the US on an Indian system.

The only advantage of buying from India is the warranty and probably the convenience of not having to cart it down. Also you could buy movies from India and play them on your system

It'll be cheaper to get it from the US and you can always order movies online and have it shipped to your place. The PS3 is pretty reliable so don't worry too much about the warranty.

This should help you chose what version to get. Remember upgrading the HDD is a piece of cake so don't worry about that.

@khanak : Thanks for the info, Star scream said that ps3 games are region free, So its basicaly the ability of the TV to switch b/w NTSC & PAL that these games will be dependent upon? So anywhere i buy the game i just need to switch the TV format before playing ?

Games sold in the US are formatted in NTSC, games from Asia are PAL. So although your PS3 will play them your TV has to be capable of switching between PAL and NTSC. Most new LCD TVs do that and will have no issues.
Blu-Ray movies are region coded. And an Indian PS3 will not play movies bought in the US (Region 5 vs 2, I think).
