i am gonna get a PS3 (most probably 40Gb one) from US this year, if a new XBOX is not rolled till December.
Go to circuit city or best buy website you will get the price for 80GB. I reckon the price for it is still $599 ( incl motostorm game free), i got this deal last year (Nov'07)

grey market hmm - maybe they took out the bluray drive and put in a regular dvd or cd drive which is why it can't read blurays. I would seriously recommend against buying grey market stuff unless you know the guy and can go back and exchange it or get your money back

If sony give a worldwide warranty on the product then claim under that. IT is irrelevant if you bought on the grey market if it comes with a worldwide warranty. Tell Sony a friend bought it as a gift for you in Singapore.

It's not a worldwide warranty.

I believe this is common problem and can be fixed very easily. I dont know about Chennai but I have read about it getting fixed in Mumbai and Delhi quite easily.

there is no worldwide warranty - if you have a singapore warranty you will need to contact them for a fix and if needed ship it to them.
You may however be able to get paid support in india - i have gone down the gift path with the indian support team for my US ps3 and it doesn't work and tried telling US guys that i shifted to india and they didn't like that either
(this was when my ps3 got stolen and i wanted to get it blocked and tracked on psn) - you can try the gift trick though
