Nope thanks to a busy few months all I got so far is a Ixus. Well atleast it has a 3" LCD screen.
I am still sold on the Canon 40D, 17-55, 70-300 system. I like it when I have 10 service centers to choose from. The official Oly guys in Mumbai (I wont name names) were rude and this was before the sale. Wonder how they will serve me after the sale. On the other hand one Canon service center was offereing free lens service.
BTW the pouch the give with the N95-8GB makes a beautiful case for the Ixus besides the Ixus and my little 12" laptop make for a cute pair.

Yeah, this is one thing that goes against Olympus in India, dearth of support network. But hey, check out the ladies who make the E3 lol:

What does the lens service involve other than cleaning? I thought weather-sealed lenses didn't need any service.

My dealer (Photospeed, Bangalore) was eager to sell the Olympus E500 twin lens kit saying there is only 1 kit left. But he did NOT give me even ONE RUPEE discount on the MRP. I had to pay Rs.49,995/- to be precise. No freebies, nothing. Talking to him was like talking to a piece of wood.
...and whenver i've gone there for some accessories, he NEVER had any...NOT EVEN a spare battery. It was a lousy shop then 2 years back. Don't know whether they've improved. Don't see a reason either.
That guy himslef is a well known photographer. Gul something. But too bad to deal in business.

well i don't have a camera :(, just borrow my friends when we go on trips, used a few cams such as the Canon EOS-350D, Canon S3IS, Panasonic DMC-FZ18, etc. here are a few pics that id like to share with you guys:

Please suggest which one should I opt for? the Fuji is priced at Rs. 23,800 and the canon at 23,500. I am a bit biased towards the Fuji because of the looks :) . Are the prices quoted reasonable?
I am looking at replacing my Canon IXUS 400. What might be its second-hand value?
Replacement I am thinking of is Canon IXUS 860is vs Sony DSC-T200
Any feedback as to which of the two might be better. Casual photo taker of family and friends. Nothing professional. Wife will be using the camera most of the time.
Canon is not officially shown on Canon India site, but available on ebay for approx Rs16K.
Sony has MRP of Rs25K but ebay shows it at Rs15k.
How realistic are ebay prices (as a guide line only).

I'd take the Canon as it has a 28mm lens. I got mine for 16K including a 4GB SDHC card from Heera Panna. I also paid extra for a 2nd battery and screen protector.
Another option available in India is the Panasonic FX100. Ricoh (R7, GX100 etc..) are not available.

I read a few reviews from US and UK sites and they say the Canon has a slight edge on picture quality compared to the Sony.
I am using Fujifilm FD40, 8.3 megapixel, the picture quality is great
and it has user friendly functions.

The Indian vendors don't stock Olympus lenses citing lack of demand. So I end up getting all my lenses from US. Also, there is a big difference between US vs India price of Olympus body/lenses.

The Canons and Nikons score over the Olympuses only due to availability of a large plethoria of lenses. This is true all over the world.
In India Olympus lenses are very hard to find in the grey market, used lens market and generally everywhere.
The Nikons and Canons have shifted over to APS formats (either full frames or smaller APS-C formats) for which considering the volumes , the sensors are cheaper.
Olympus uses a different format tending towards the medium format though not fully medium format.
If a person does not earn out of photography or does not have a large amount of money to burn, then Canons and Nikons are the answer.
I personally have a Canon 350D (Rebel XT) which at 8MP is more than OK.
