Guys, this site is really good for comparos- 1 on 1:

Canon A3200 IS vs Sony W510

I have to place order today, so I get it in time.
The site suggests W510 over the A3200!
But, I am still not fully sure.

Final call?

I am really not looking at anything Upward of 6.5K (+0.5K tops)

Its price is 10K on ebay so should be cheaper in stores.
..

Ordering on Letsbuy- benefit:
1. 10% discount.
2. 4GB pendrive as a freebie :D

Thanks,

Ace.

I am no camera expert, but when i was researching for a ps camera had found Ixus 220hs(Elph 300hs is US) better than sx130is. Elph 300hs review - Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS Camera - Express Review

I am considering the Ixus 300Hs (SD4000) for my wife s it's lens is slightly faster on the long end but it seems to be discontinued (replaced by the Ixus 310HS?).

The Ixus 220Hs or the Sony WX9 or WX7 seem great options as they have nicer screens. Also I am told the Sony does movies better than the Canon.

If you dont mind a touch screen consider the Ixus 310 (Elph500) or Sony wx30.

Anyone use the Sony WX5? How does it comapre to the Canons (Elph 300Hs / 310HS).

I considered the IXUS 220HS and Canon Powershot 130SX-IS and found them pretty close in picture quality. Even the comparison link in the previous post says the same thing.

I finally chose the 130SX primarily due to the following :-

a) Super zoom ( 12X Optical)
b) I tried the slim IXUS and it felt too small in my hands especially after getting used to DSLR size:D. SX-130 is sturdier, bigger yet not bulky. Felt good to hold
c) It's almost like a DSLR and went into an awe to note there are so many features that you can play around with
d) HD recording capability at 720P
e) Bigger LCD screen which like a touch phone flips when you swing the camera around
f) Exhaustive in-built picture modification options

Got it for Rs.10,400 from Reliance Digital (2.5% discount over their best offer price of Rs,10,665) and Rs.1,000 Gift Voucher that I can redeem anytime with them till Nov 30th. VFM, I say !!!

I wanted to buy something new on Dussera and I am happy with this purchase.

Already? I made a comaprision of 4 pocket sized canons for you (and my wife - her current camera is the F70 on the left).

See Excel file attached.

I bought the hx9v. It's really nice and handy, especially the 16x zoom over the hx7v. The movies in full HD are clear and smooth.

How do i insert a sample video here?

I picked up the Canon - A3200 IS - Street price 6300 INR :D
Could have gotten it at lesser, but, was tired from all the roaming on SP road!

So far just shooting on the Auto mode. Satisfactory- I can say for sure!
( 1 out of 7 photos was blurry - and couple of them are not very sharp - need to check some modes shooting -not sure, whether it was the camera or the guy shooting my photos)
Will check more this week and put some sample photos.

Video 720p is good! - happy with that.
The Canon software is good with interface, but I am not so happy with Zoom browser EX or that editing part. ( Even picassa is better!)

will check and experiment more this week and weeks to come!

Thanks to the people suggesting it.

Ace.

EDIT:
It has 4GB card-
but, I would like to shoot more '720p's with it. ( this one lets me shoot only 22 min!)
Please suggest which memory to buy for it? Class/(SD/mini/HC/SDXC)-type/size-I-think-16GBshould be ok/ advise please.

Well, i would suggest you go in for a camera with HD Video & Optical Image Stabilizer at the least to avoid blurry pictures during zooming and in low light. In the range of 10k you could look at the following:
  1. Sony W570 - Rs.11K (16MP, 5x, HD Video, Optical Image Stabilizer)
  2. Canon A3300 - Rs.10K (16MP, 5x, HD Video, Optical Image Stabilizer)
  3. Casio Z2000 - Rs.10K (14MP, 5x, HD Video, Optical Image Stabilizer)
These are the best options available in the market with all of the above having some or the other feature extra over the other. The Casio is the one which leads the pack as it has the following features extra:
  • Battery shot capacity of 580 shots as compared to 200-220 shots in other models
  • High speed shooting at 10 photos per second (maximum 20 shots) & 3 consecutive shots with flash in less than a second for capturing motion
  • Multi Recording - One can click photos between video recordings and video will keep recording.
  • The Premium Auto mode is the most advance auto mode which can select a variety of parameters before, during and after shooting a photo to give you an image with exceptional detailing.
Not that the Canon or Sony aren't good, it's just that this model is superior to the rest. The discounts vary from Rs.300-1000 usually, but the Casio is available for around Rs.8000 and it comes with a Casio wrist watch worth Rs.2700

Finally got the Casio Z2000. Bought it for 7.4k from Rama Color in CP (New Delhi). Got a camera pouch + 4gb card + casio watch free.

Thanks for the suggestion Vipin. You suggested me something which was exactly what i asked for!

That's a very nice comparison Navin. However, two things that i dont see in it are prices and the model that i finally bought (Canon SX-130 IS)

Like all my purchases, I buy within a few days of thought coming into the mind:D. And, for this purchase, wanted to buy it specifically on the festival day. Hence, did a simple comparo and just went and bought what I liked:)

2 reasons.

I assumed you are looking for a pocket camera. The SX130 was too big.

Price to me is always an after thought (within reason otherwise the LX5 for Leica would have been included) because if you buy something you will use a few Rs. more is worth it compared to bying something you wont use for a few Rs. less.

I indeed wanted a small camera and checked out the pocket camera's which were way too small for my comfort and felt little worried they may slip out of my hands. And, a fluke chance of seeing an ad in paper made me check out the SX130 and when i handled it, it seemed perfect ( not too big nor too small)

Well, I wanted a P&S for 7K max and reason for buying was just for its convenience vs. a DSLR and ended up spending 10K:)

I'm planning to buy a new digital camera for both indoor and outdoor shooting. It should fit in my denim's front pocket and should have a good optical zoom. I was considering the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V. or Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10. Is there an alternative to what I've shortlisted? Anyone already owning one of these, please share your suggestions.

You mean the TZ18 na? That is what is comparable to the HX9.

Other options are: Canon SX230 (only 28mm wide), Fuji F500/600 EXR, and Panny's TZ20.

I love the features of HX9v, many of my friends are using it and are very happy with it. Now Sony is offering good Diwali discounts.

Any idea on how much would that cost in India?
