It should vary between 15k to 16.5k, cross check with dealers in your area, there is no uniform price for it. Someone here had bought it for 14890 from adexmart, posted couple of pages back. I could not find a better price than them anywhere else till date :)

My Sony DSC camera stopped functioning due to IC or chip problem.Now I want to buy a new one soon. I would be happy to have aSLR Nikon. If it is cheaper in Singapore I would like to buy there. Any idea about this query from those visited Singapore and did Camera purchase.

I got my Sony Cybershot DSC HXV9 Black today. Just clicked some shots at home and the picture quality seems to be very good.

Dear sir, congrats on your new purchase. i too am considering buying the same camera. I fell in love with this series of camera after seeing the results on my friends 110SX-IS. I just have a few questions regarding the camera.

1) Does the camera come with a memory chip included in the MRP?
2) Does it come with a battery charger?
3) Did you consider the 150 SX-IS before buying the 130 SX-IS?
4) How is the picture quality while shooting in low light, High ISO setting of above 400?
5) How is the build quality?

Thank you. Let me respond to your queries :-

1) Yes, it comes with a memory card. If i am not wrong its a 4GB card
2) Ofcourse, any camera you buy comes with a charger by default
3) No, I didnt consider the 150SX-IS as my initial budget was 8K and finally bought the 130SX-IS which was purchased at 10.4K
4) Picture quality is decent ( not comparing to DSLR quality) and did take a few low light pictures and i am happy with it's outcome
5) Build quality is good. I tried the slim cameras they were too small for my hands whereas I liked the grip of this cam over the slim ones.

Besides above, some points to note :-

1. It generally comes with alkaline batteries which usually dont last long and this offer had a couple of NiMH batteries also thrown in as part of the deal. Apart from that other accessories included where pouch, 1K gift voucher, CD containing download software

2. I noticed that low battery warning lights up around 60% of battery life ( an irritant). I was initially alarmed to see the icon come up so early. However, even after the warning light came up it lasted for pretty long unlike other cameras where within a few shots the cam dies on you.

Expect the NiMH battery to give your approximately 250-300 shots ( maybe even less if flash is used extensively) on a full charge which goes to say battery life isnt the best out there. If this isnt a deal-breaker then go for it:thumbs up

Any Sony Cybershot HX9V owners here? Any ideas on how to take slow motion videos using the HX9V? Is this by any means possible directly using the controls from the camera or should I take normal videos and post process it to run in slow motion using tools like Sony Vegas? I did not find any control or setting on the camera that would directly allow me to process a normal video to a slow motion video before I transfer the contents to a computer.

It has been a week since I've owned this camera and all in all I find it very good in terms of handling, picture quality and the camera itself is robust constructed and more importantly the videos stand outstanding. The camera is also compact given its diverse features and easily fits in my front denim pocket. Just take it out anytime and shoot what I want. The only drawback that I see is with the flash that auto pops out. The location of the flash is exactly the location where we would have our left pointing finger when we shoot. But I got used to this and I never put my finger anymore on the popup but on an area nearby which allows the flash to popup without any hindrance.

I'm learning a lot with this camera and hopefully in a couple of years I would be going for a more advanced camera (preferably the EVIL ones) as compactness is my number one priority.

My take on the HX9V is that it is worth the money. Truly VFM!

Thinking of buying a Canon IXUS 220 HS for my wife. Any idea which Bangalore shop can give the best price? Can't consider online since the camera is needed by Friday.

Try Croma, Reliance or eZone. The camera specialist shops charge a premium.

I just got this camera for my son. Other cameras worth considering are the Sony WX10 and Samsung WB210 or the now available IXUS 230 HS (the later 2 have only touch screen controls so are a little diffcult to switch controls).

To be honest I have not seen a huge jump in lens quality in P&S over the past 2 years or so. For example compare my wife's 2 year old Fuji F70 to Canon's recent Ixus 1100.

I have a Nikon D60 and a couple of lenses, including a beautiful 35mm f1.8 prime which delivers good bokeh, but I increasingly find that:

A. I do not take out the camera that much
B. Even when I do, it takes some time for me to take out of the bag
C. The Subject is more aware and conscious when they see an SLR
D. I can't find the focal length I want, so I have to change lenses on the field, which of course, increases the chances of dust on the sensor, and wastes time.

In fact, I have taken a lot more of my better photos with my ancient Canon Powershot A80 with a lovely flip-and-twist LCD. Bottom Line: The best photos are not taken by the best cameras, but with the cameras that are with you at the moment.

I realize I need to small (compared to an SLR) compact with good picture quality and a reasonably fast lens, which I can carry with me everyday whenever I go out. It should be able to shoot well in low light and have a decent array of manual controls. I realize that high ISO performance will not match the D60, but that is a trade-off I am willing to make.

Please do not suggest any EVIL cameras (Sony's NEX, Olmypus E-PL1/2/3 etc.) as they are still too big and I really do not want the hassle of changing lenses.

Also, no Superzooms (Canon SX220 / Sony HX9V etc as they arent that great for low light, and I really do not need the huge zoom range all the time).



My budget is around 20k and I shortlisted the following models:

1. Nikon P300
Why?
- It is the cheapest (14.5k)
- Got a nice fast f1.8 at the wide end (but only 4.9 on the tele)
- Is nice small and sturdy
- Has got a nice 920k pixel screen
- 24mm wide angle is good
- 1080p video
Why Not?
- Only a 1/2.3" sensor, compared to 1/1.7" of the competition
- Not really the best photo quality
- No quick menu option for settings
- Mixed reviews

2. Canon Powershot S95/S100
Why?
- Falls within budget and is a well known model (S95)
- f2.0 at the wide-end
- Has 24mm wide angle (S100)
- Is small and compact
- Has very good high ISO performance
- I am used to Canon's menu systems and ergonomics
Why Not?
- Only 720p video with no optical zoom
- Old model and priced high (21k)
- New Model (S100) may be out of budget
- Only f4.9 at the tele-end.

3. Nikon P7100
Why?
- Good value for money (22k vs 32k for its competitor, the Canon G12)
- Chunky and solid
- Good High ISO
- Very versatile zoom range (28mm-200mm)
- Easy access to image parameters
- Tilting LCD
Why Not?
- Bigger compared to previous options
- Not a 24mm wide angle
- Lens not as bright (f2.8 at the wide end, compared to f1.8 or f2.0 of the competition)

4. Olympus XZ-1
Why?
- Very bright lens (f1.8 - f2.5 across the zoom range)
- Nice LCD
- Is medium in size
Why Not?
- Not really sure of the brand
- High ISO performance isnt great
- 25k is a bit steep

P.S. The Canon G12 and Panasonic LX5 are 30k and thus automatically out of the running.

I too got it last week for 10665/- and it is a great price for this. The zoom range (24-120mm) it has is just perfect, most usable unlike the super zooms starting 28mm.

Where did you get it from?

At Croma in Kalyan Nagar. My wife already used it in a trip. She shot many indoor shots without flash at 1/15sec and there is no shake. The IS is very good in this.
