I don't own a Telescope, but have seen a shop in Garuda Mall that stocks Telescopes. It is a "Whizz" outlet, also deals in cameras, and is on the same floor as the Food court. If I remember right, the brand name was "Celestion". Hope this helps

Yes, most of the Whizz outlets (not the franchisees) have telescopes. The ones i know are in Garuda Mall, Forum Mall and Dickenson Road.

I've seen Binoculars at Photospeed (Olympus dealer, Brigade Road)....but i'm not sure i saw telescopes there.

40K is a good budget for a telescope. You should be able to get some good ones.

check out telescopes.com and telescope.com for models and usage tips. However I don't think you would get the same deal here. Celestron is supposed to be one of the better brands.

Let me know if you got any good deals. I'm trying to get one from the US.

Check Photo Circle at Balapet. Jayesh is nice guy and deals in high end photo equipment. He might be able to source good telescopes as well.

Try tejraj.com. Its owned by a guy in Bombay. He makes his own telescopes and sells other imported brands too.

I bought a lot of stuff from him back when i made my 8" reflector. The guy's genuine, although a bit eccentric.

Hahaha...good one, khanak!
I've been wanting to get myself a telescope too. A decent one costs $100, ones that have a monitor and allow you to punch in co-ordinates to view the sky/terrain.

Celestron is good make. One of the top.

I don't own one but have used a really huge automatic one on my trip to US at my uncle's place. They are much more expensive in India though.

Was planning to pick up a Nikon Action Series 8 * 40 Binocular and looked up this guy at tejraj.com. His prices are really competitive. For example, this same model was sold at 5600 (inclusive of tax) whereas out here in Bangalore, it was being sold at 7300. How does he manage the margin, not that I'm complaining.

What's the purpose? Terrestrial or night-sky observation? For the former you'll need a refractor, but for the latter a reflector is ideal. Reflectors are also cheaper and lighter, for the same magnification. If you're a beginner, a really nice reflector shouldn't set you back by more than 15-18K. Celestron Starhopper is a good brand, but I don't know any dealers in Bangalore.
