Is it officially unlocked version? If so go ahead, otherwise hold on for the moment!

No please don't. I found the performance was much better on iOS 4.1
If you still want to update MAKE SURE you create a custom firmware file and then restore it through iTunes without upgrading the baseband. I followed the same for my friend's iPhone 3GS

Ok thanks but is it an easily doable job or could it end up bricking the device!
With the present unlock Im using, the only area where it lacks is in messaging. It displays an error message always. Local tech. says upgrade to 4.2.1. will improve things.

I would recommend against it since the new OS 4.3 is supposedly around the corner. Moreover, with 4.3, there is news that the unlock will be released. It makes sense to wait for that rather than take a chance to upgrade to 4.2.1.
My opinion though :)
Dear all.
I am planning to buy an iPhone (evaluating between Android and iPhone actually) for my wife. If I get an factory unlocked iPhone from abroad, is there any restriction with respect to carrier in India? For example, can my continue to use her normal postpaid Vodafone connection? I am sure she can make calls. But what about web browsing etc?
Where in Hyderabad could I get a new unlocked Iphone 3Gs/4? Any idea how much it would cost?
I got an Ipod touch and upgraded it to the newer version yesterday. Did not see any visible difference though.
Can someone confirm if the unlocked version is available in Dubai?
Dubai sells only unlocked phones. No FaceTime though for the time being.

Hello ,
I want to buy an iPhone 3GS or iPhone4 . I will be picking it from USA . I have seen iPhone4 going from $450 to $600 and 3GS from $350-500 on ebay.
My query is if I buy the phone from here will it work with all the features in India , will it be unlocked/jailbroken without any issues? or should I buy factory unlocked , jailbroken handset which cost $500 for 3GS and $7-800 for iPhone4 ?
I am a newbie when it comes to phones , last phone I bought for myself was Nokia E71 . Please help and suggest.
Regards
I got my factory unlocked iPhone 4 from ebay India last week. Loving the experience so far. Got VMC (Vodafone Mobile Connect) activated and it works better than expected. Few pictures attached.
Got the silicon bumper + screen guard separately. Now expecting the leather pouch to arrive. All purchases made through ebay.
^^ Don't remove the protective sheet that covers the backside of the phone. it saves the back of the phone from scratches and dust which is prevalent in our environment.

I already got rid of that sheet at the back :Frustrati. It was obstructing the camera lens view. Isn't the glass at the back supposed to be scratch resistant? Dust will always finds a way into almost anything, no matter what you do.

In Dubai, the unlocked phone (till last week) was only for Enterprise buyers. Which means it is only being sold with a plan by Du. Etisalat had no stock. In a couple of months it may be available without a plan but not yet.
