However, I took the Applecare and that advantage is that I can get it replaced on breakage or any issue twice in a 2 year period for a nominal fee of 100$.

iPhone Plus shows $399 for 64 GB, what kind of tax would make it $925?!

:uncontrol

$399 is the price with the contract!

$925 is the price without contract :D

In essence, if you wanna buy your phone locked to a carrier, on an EMI plan, its gonna cost you $399 + monthly stuff.

Else, if you wanna buy just the phone, without it being tied to a network/carrier, it's gonna cost you $925.

Savvy?

The plan phones are granted only with credit history check. If you buy a locked phone you are expected to pay a plan fee for 2 years. If this is not paid, the credit history of the person will be impacted.
Also if you unlock here, I do not think you can get OS updates.

So, finally got the new Airtel 4G sim for my iPhone 5S.

Trouble is, no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the damn thing to switch to LTE.

Before anyone asks, yes I've done the regular stuff.

Which includes getting the latest settings on my iPhone, turning on the Enable LTE switch, restarting the phone, resetting network settings.

Any thoughts on how to get 4G in Chennai on the Airtel network? So far, even 3G performance is worse with this new sim.

Anyone shifted to 4G recently on Airtel?

Just Google for this problem there is a solution available.

Further, people planning to buy the iPhone 6 can check the attached serial numbers which will be honoured under Indian warranty as well. This information has been confirmed by Apple care India.

Tried Airtel 4G in Mumbai yesterday. Download speed peaked at 17.40Mbps whereas, the upload at 1.13Mbps.

I tried it too and saw LTE for 2 seconds before it changed back to 3G. I believe as usual their infrastructure is not ready completely and this may work good in some parts of chennai than other...

Worked just fine for me for the while I used. As you can see from the screen grab, I was almost out of battery juice so, switched to 3G after 5mins of LTE use. But, I do agree with you, they have a long way to go in terms of infra setup. Even 3G doesn't work at quite a few places so, an active 24 x 7 working LTE is just a distant dreamstupid:

What's the model number of your iphone 5S? Is it A1532 (check on the back side of the phone) If it is anything else, then the Indian LTE bands are not supported on your phone.

After Iphone 4/iOS4, its really difficult to unlock the phone, software unlock is not possible. The sim tray ones are very messy in operation and not reliable.

EDIT: I am out of touch for past few month, please correct me if i am wrong about software unlocks.

I don't think you get 4G cellular services in chennai. I am from Bangalore and when i visit chennai I only get 3G services. Check with your operator.
