Thanks a ton. I'll upgrade in a couple of days may be. Just getting used to iOS so don't want too much to change. |
If you are just getting used to iOS why bother to get familiarize with 9.x, just upgrade to 10 :)

Does it make a big diff on a 6? |
My office phone is a 5S, and I did the update yesterday. The look and feel changed a bit, and no noticeable lag or anything. I think you can safely go ahead and update your 6.

Mainly Notification Center and iMessage; and Siri integration for apps.
GUI changes mostly for 6 users.
OK I ve done it now. It seems fine too.
Lets use it for a bit and then see what happens.
Anyway I won't even consider an upgrade to iPhone 7 until perhaps one year after its launch...

Any point in upgrading to iOS10? Is it possible on a 4S?

There is no iOS 10 for 4S. 9.3.5 is the latest it can go to. Updated my 6 and iPad Air to iOS 10 yesterday and really liked the new Photos app. It very well grouped my trip photos automatically and made some beautiful memories of my kid (without applying any server side intelligence, yes am a privacy freak :D ). Colors used are a little disappointment, especially the blue on control center icons. Another major change is for iMessage which has added lot of bells and whistles, but at the cost of complexity.
On a second note, the phone performs much snappier now. Can't comment on battery life.

Don't even think about upgrading the 4S!
6 gets most of the features, but the cool stuff is with 6S. |
Iphone 5 is the earliest device that will get this upgrade. It will not be shown as an available upgrade on 4 / 4s - 9.3.5 is the last version you can install on that.

Its just that it is really tempting. I don't quite understand Apple's logic of making the Plus phones better (camera, battery etc). The 6s Plus was literally gigantic, and I have handled other 5.5 inches as well. So, was never keen on that. While the 4.7 seems puny now.
Is my mind playing tricks that I find iphones bigger than their competitors.
Maybe, I would look at buying my first iphone around early next year.

It is premium product placement, like Macbook Air Vs Pro, higher spec higher price and branding. With regards to better hardware, one of the reason is availability of more space in those devices may also be the reason and ofcourse charging a premium too.
Apple devices being bigger, again i have not really observed this since it is usually the size of the screen that decides the size of the device overall.

*SNIP* Apart from that, now on iOS 10 you can delete stock applications. That should help. OS generally takes 5gigs. Issues faced on iPhones that are 16gigs. |
Er... no. The stock apps are not actually deleted from the phone, they are just hidden. So, that won't free top any space I am afraid.
Cheers

Unfortunately, 4S is not compatible, The hardware and the latest software just wont go well together, Just an advice people looking to upgrade to iphone 5s or 6, Now is the right now, Prices have fallen a lot.

maybe its just me, but i always felt the 'S' releases are better (both software and hardware wise). If you would wait, maybe its worth waiting for the 7S.

Yes and maybe even more better - considering it'll be iPhone's 10th anniversary next year!
So far so good. One working day into the iOS10 Upgrade on my iPhone6.
Yes, I will wait one more year until them AppleBeasts launch the iPhone 7S....till then my 6 will suffice!
Its been 2 days since i have updated to iOS 10 but still couldnt figure out how to unlock my iPhone 6 in one go.
PS: My phone has a passcode plus fingerprint sensor.

Just press the button, the home button. That's it.
