Dynolicious : Want to Dyno your car? Get an iPhone.

Dynolicious : Want to Dyno your car? Get an iPhone.-dynosaurlicious.jpg

Dynolicious is an all-purpose automotive performance meter, utilizing the built-in accelerometer in the iPhone and iPod touch to record your driving characteristics. BunsenTech, the makers of the software, claim that it can record 0-60 times within .08 of a second, accurately estimate your current speed and monitor and record any directional G force. The system seeks to perform nearly every function of (much) more expensive dedicated monitoring units, which seems like an awfully tall order for a $12.99 piece of cell phone software.

Fortunately, bloggers more experienced with the dedicated units have dispelled fears that this app is a waste of money. Dynolicious can actually do what it claims, and presents its data in a useful and attractive way.

Read more at Gizmodo.

One more screenshot. Enjoy

What do you get for your $12.99?

Specifically, the Dynolicious software gives you:
  • 0-60 MPH
  • Other Speed Tests (0-10 MPH through 0-100 MPH in 10MPH increments)
  • Quarter Mile Elapsed Time
  • Quarter Mile Trap Speed
  • Elapsed Time and Trap Speed for standard intervals (60', 330', 1/8 Mi, 1000')
  • Lateral G's (current and peak)
  • Braking G's (current and peak)
  • Wheel Horsepower
  • Estimated Engine Horsepower
  • Realtime Speedometer and Graphs
  • Realtime graphical skidpad display
  • View results for latest test run or any saved run
  • View averages based on vehicle, date, or modification
  • Compare results between vehicles, dates, or before-and-after modifications

Coutesy: Driving Sports also mentioned above.

seems like a cheaper alternative to the gtech which also uses an accelerometer but i dont think this will be too accurate.

Akshay, check that link at the bottom. Since I dont know much about dyno's I dont know what they are talking about. They conclude that it is good for that price.

wow... now this may force me to buy an iPhone when it is launched in Indiacheers:.

The catch: spending nearly $400-$500 for an iphone to make use of an $13 app.

thanks for sharing this. i think this will make a better alternative to fixing my speedo. I think gtech too is not that accurate in calculating bhp figures. so i get a phone, a gtech and a new speedo. this is fantastic.

You stole my words!! And I have never bothered with any of Apple stuff (except for Safari and Quicktime), so this may be my first venture in to the Mac-land!!

These things can never be accurate since they don't consider drive, gearing, aerodynamic/rolling resistance, traction etc when calculating power through acceleration.

2 cars with the exact same power and weight, wont always have similar performance.

Wow, So an Iphone with this App installed is all You need to DYNO test your car.
Though it wont be that accurate, I think its good enough for casual Testings..

This will only be good for casual testing. But if you are good enough, you will see improvements (hopefully) and then dyno only at the end of all your tweaks.

I dont know if this works properly, but it seemed like fun so posted it here.

Ofcourse, it fun to have something like this provided you don't take it too seriously.

It'l be a nice thing to meet up on a weekend and see who can clock the fastest time in a particular car or pull the most G's around a corner.

Great! you were the first one that came to my mind when I saw the iPhone thread. Was waiting for this

Let us know how it goes and I might have reason to look for a 3G iPhone
