Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Well with my various trails with Voda 3g over the last 2 days, speed is good but signal fluctuates. To get constant 3G chose only 3G signal on your phone at the risk of call drops. But then its a free trail service i guess and we cant complain.

NC,
Must be a problem with your phone antenna. I don't have any fluctuations.
3G eats battery life though.

3g also depends on your location. 3g signal in my office is ok, bad at home which is 3 km away and nearly nonexistent during my drive from home to office. Coincidently NC is using LG Optimus 1 like me. Any other user feedback using the same handset. Hope its not an issue with the LG

Got 3.5 G signal at work. Speed is amazing. I am on 99 Rs 2 GB GPRS package. That packages continues on 3G for now.

EDIT : Download speed is around 1.4 mbps, faster then Airtel ADSL that I have.

on Airtel, if you're using 3G while not subscribed to a 3G plan, i think you get charged 30p/20kb. you might wanna be careful there else you'll end up with a big fat bill!

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

I got 3G on my Vodafone... er.. phone.

its soft launch is on so their network coverage is not as good as its going to be, though i'm getting a better 3G signal than the old 2G one. [Maybe because the 3G antenna is different in the phone]

And its smooth.

PS: Vodafone users will get charged as per their current plan until it is officially launched. that is when the new tariffs will get released and we'll have to choose which plan we want.

Does Vodafone still have the Rs 99 2GB GPRS package? I checked on their website and there is no mention of this plan.

Yes it works, you can apply that via ant ATM/Online recharge site that has "Flexi recharge" option. My plan is valid till 27th.

Sorry forgot to add any query: Is this for prepaid or for postpaid too as I have a postpaid connection with Vodafone.

ritayan,

Do you face the issues I am mentioning below,

1) 3G works only on vodafone live APN - once I switch to vodafonemobileconnect the GPRS sign disappears

2) Are you able to use app like gmail. gtalk, marketplace with 3G ? I can't !

But I am still on the BB399 unlimited plan - could that be an issue ?

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

For me, gmail/facebook etc work with Vodafone Line. I think your data plan can be an issue.

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Vodafone lags much behind Airtel in Delhi too, its been a week since Airtel launched 3G here but no word yet from Vodafone regarding a launch. But, looking at Bombay Vodafone experiences, looks like we ain't missing much anyway..

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Today I am getting excellent speed on my 3G network. I have downloaded the ESPN mobile TV app on my iphone and am able to watch live world cup matches on my handset. There is however a 2 min lag between the TV broadcast and the mobile TV feed. Nevertheless wonderful way to be in touch with the worldcup on the road.
