Since past few weeks I'm enjoying 3G data speeds at 2G rates! I just spend Rs89 for 2GB usage!

The only downside is that there are no 3G towers near my home. But I make sure that I exploit this connection to the max when I'm near a 3G tower!

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Please suggest a 3g connection for my iPad2. It would be used majorly between Mumbai and Pune hence connectivity on expressway and Mumbai city is essential.

Which is the best choice?

Also are Microsims for the iPad available with all operators?

I feel great VFM is provided by BSNL.
Rs.999/- for unlimited use (as far as I know, there is no data cap) per month, (other plans also available).
BSNL - iPad

The only thing is I don't know about coverage, especially on the express way?

Reliance also offers a specific plan:
Reliance 3G Tab iPad 2
I am not sure as to what roaming agreements Reliance have in Rest of Maharashtra. They have licence for Mumbai, but not for Rest of Maharashtra. If there is no roaming agreement, then it's pointless.

Thanks for the info Raja.

Do these work seamlessly on the expressway?

Sahil,
I use an Airtel 3G connection on my iPad 2 and the performance in the last 4 months has been very good. I can't comment on performance in the burbs or the pune expressway but town side, coverage and speeds are excellent.

They also have a micro sim readily available. I am on the Rs. 675 flex shield plan. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
V

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Just wanted to check if I can use Ipad with a 2G, EDGE GPRS plan. Airtel has a 1GB/98Rs plan on 2G. Someone was telling me that Ipad only works with 3G.

Not true. As long as you put in the APN, you will be able to use your EDGE connection. In fact, when I was travelling last month to Ranchi, I lost 3G briefly and it automatically switched me to EDGE.

However, I would recommend a 3G connection to truly enjoy the iPad on the go.

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Is there a good 3G connection in Bangalore that would be a broadband replacement? Reliance broadband is having issues for the last couple of weeks and there is no other provider in my area, so thinking of going for a 3G plan.

@sumannandy - you can check out the airtel 3G usb stick, a colleague has it and its blazing fast, Speedtest shows 4.x Mbps. check out for offers they have. This is only good if you are not a heavy downloader as 3G pricing is still very high.

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

For reliance 4 Mbps I am paying around 1400+ per month and the speed is around 1 Mbps, sometimes 120kbps. I will check out the plans, but if I could get around 10GB or so for around 1400 that would be good for me at 4Mbps.

Is there any other provider that offers similar speed?

Got an sms from airtel that free usage for 3g plan is doubled!
So flexishield now gives 2.5 gb for 675,then 2p/100kb.
I am a very heavy net user, and though 1.25 or 2.5 gb doesnt sound like much,on the cell it is.
With a hot spot share in the car for about 3 hours every weekday , I was managing about 2gb total in a month.
So, woo hoo!
