Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Guys on Airtel 3G, beware. They can change your 3G data plan without you even knowing. I had activated Rs.200/250MB plan and later upgraded to Rs.675/1.25GB plan. Two days after the upgrade, I get an alert saying that Rs.200 plan is activated. I had to write a couple of nicely worded stinker mails to the nodal office and then to the appellate office to set things right.

I'm waiting for my present billing cycle to get over, so that i can deactivate 3G and return to the Rs.98/2GB 2G GPRS plan.

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Has anyone else in Bangalore been suffering like me with this Airtel 3G network? (I am on a Flexi shield RS 675 plan). The connectivity to 3G by itself is so pathetic, whenever i need to access the net in a jiffy it changes over to Edge network. And the coverage across is useless. I have complained numerous times to customer care without any effect.

the only plus point for me is i am on a corporate account and i earlier was on 140 rs/ week (RS 560 PM) and now i shifted to 675 3G. For this difference of 110 Rs i feel "privileged" to get 3G network now and then.

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

redrage, if you want to get a better 3G network, set your network to only UMTS/3G, and NOT Dual. AFAIK, SE phones give you the choice between Dual and GSM, so there's nothing you could do. For Nokia devices, you can choose between Dual, UMTS and GSM. I haven't used Android, Bada, Maemo, so can't comment on those smartphones.

My friend who stays near Christ college is facing the same issue that you've described. He's on a pay as you go plan, on a Nokia N85. I do not face too many problems but late at night, it simply won't connect. Sometimes it gets sorted out in a few minutes, sometimes it takes a couple of hours.

Airtel customer care is practically useless, except to vent all your frustration at some bloke, limited to 5 times a day. A better way out is to call their nodal office or write to them.

@ shivmarwaha

What??? So, the existing users will be migrated to the new rates or it is applicable only to the new signups?

Damn! So i'll have to shell out an extra hundred rupees for the same amount of data transfer! In that case, I think i'll consider MNP

Idea Cellular Launches 3G services

Idea Cellular has launched 3G services in MP, HP, Chattisgarh and Gujarat.

They will roll out in the remainder of the licensed circles by 15/4.

Details of their data packs on their website. First impression is that data charges are a rip off.

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

Its just called TV. Provided via an App. To install: send "TV" to 111

You will receive a URL with an application to be installed on phone. At the moment, Nokia / iPhone /Android are supported.

this App is free, it shows list of channels.

Once you select a channel, you have two options:

1. Watch it for a day for 7 Rs
2. Subscribe to TV for 150 Rs a month

Don't have complete list of channel. But usual ones like:

1. Cricket (special channel for world cup and IPL)
2. Bunch of English / Hindi news channels
3. Music
4. Kids
4. Sas bahu types

Are there.

There are call drops even when you are using 2g/3g together on androids.

1) 3G works only on vodafone live APN - once I switch to vodafonemobileconnect the GPRS sign disappears

2) Are you able to use app like gmail. gtalk, marketplace with 3G ? I can't !

But I am still on the BB399 unlimited plan - could that be an issue ?
1) i think you might have to get the VMC plan activated and not the bb plan.
2) yes apps like gmail, gtalk and marketplace are accessible with 3g. so far haven't faced any problems with it.
