Tomorrow is the start of the new billing cycle. This evening I got an automated message from Vodafone that my 3G data pack has been increased by 50% with immediate effect. That means I get 1.5GB traffic in the 375 plan. F150, you may have received the same or will get it shortly.

Cheers!

what does your reading on the phone tell? My great Android phone had a similar problem wherein after disabling everything, it showed increased usage :(

when i got the message for 383MB, iPhone however was showing 271MB; but i reset the statistics one day later than the new billing cycle. however, when i got the 423MB message, the counter was still at 271MB on the device.

I've experienced neighbors stealing WiFi (don't ask which side of the fence I was on ), so have the neighbors upgraded, to steal 3g?

change the APN next time, just delete the m from com.

This latches you to the 3G network, as you have subscribed to a EDGE data pack it will restrict the download to EDGE speed(256kbps).But unlike 2g it actually sticks to that speed

Actually, the suggestion by Blueangel worked in my case. My phone was unnecessarily latching onto EDGE where I knew I have 3G coverage. So when I set the option to "WCDMA Only", it immediately switched to "H". Otherwise, it would have taken more time to finally switch to 3G, but eventually it might have happened.

Is this code (*#*#4636#*#*) specific to any models? It worked on my Android but didn't work on iPhone 3GS.

This worked because Airtel now allows the mobile office Rs 98/- plan users to use 3G network with a speed cap. One of my friends saw "3G" icon in his mobile but he was subscribed to MObile office only, so he called up customer care and asked about it. The rep told - "Enjoy 3G saar.. no extra charges.."

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

I'm getting 450 for 2GB on Idea in Pune. But thats not news.

What is news is that i constantly get speeds between 2.5 mbps to 4.5 mbps! I've checked this randomly with speedtest over the last couple of months and I am blown away.

I have a wired line from Tata Indicom at home, supposed to give me 2 mbps, and a lot of the time, I get under 1 mbps.

We are finally moving towards wireless overpowering wires. Whoohooo...

Re: Atlast! 3G in India

I dont know about all of you but i take conference calls all day and frankly the Airtel 3G quality is so atrociously underwhelming its not funny. I can't wait to unsubscribe by this weekend.

and by the way, airtel just smacked me with 2900 Mb of billing in 3 days so I am already overwhelmed with their services

For conf calls, i dont think there is any decent alternative to landline.

If someone has 1 mbps or better broadband, Even Skype/SIP works better then a cell for conf calls. Fortunately most MNCs have US toll free numbers for conf calls, and dialing those numbers is free from Skype.

Will post a screenshot of the speed test from my office, I have full network there.
Ok here is the screenshot as promised.

How good is the 3g service from Vodafone karnataka? Do they provide the promised speeds? Is their data usage calculations accurate?

Vodafone doesn't have 3G license in Karnataka. You may chose AIRTEL

I know. They are sharing network with airtel, but i would prefer to be on the primary carrier who owns the network.
