How is this for Reliability...
My Sister bought a MMX A87(Android 2.3 .....4 inch Screen.....1GHz Snapdragon) in Sep 2012 for 6K
and today, the battery is swollen like a balloon.
One minute, it shows 100% battery...
Disconnect the charger, open the browser, it shuts down
That should give you the idea of the battery life that remains
Surprisingly, MMX batteries are not freely available in the market(or online).
Have to go to the service center, order it.(yes, order a Rs 400/- part)
and then wait for it(1-2 weeks).
The battery is out of warranty as it is over 6 months.
But this was not expected, not at least till 2 years from the date of purchase.
It would take a miracle for me to recommend a MMX to somebody. |
I located 2 micromax service centres near me(surprisingly both were within 2Kms of each other, why two service centres so close).
X & Y.
An acquaintance at a popular mobile shop confirmed the fact that MMX batteries are only available at service center.
So I visited Service Centre X, . The guys asks me the handset model and after about 10 minutes, tell me to come back tomorrow and he would provide the battery for Rs 650/-
(My acquaintance told me that if not readily available it would take 2-4 days). I got his mobile number and would ring him tomorrow.
I had already called the service centre Y and they had told me that they would have to order it and it would cost Rs 400/-.
When I visited Y, they told me it would cost Rs 500/-. Take 7-10 days.
Also took my Name, Address, Mobile no. , IMEI and told me that I would get an SMS when the battery is available.
Now this makes me curious.
Why are two authorised service centres charging me differently and quoting different waiting periods?
Just makes me lose the little confidence I had left in the Micromax brand
May be post this on MMX fb page or Twitter?

Thanks for the info. Can you also help reg the following wrt to Grand:-
1. Battery Back up
2. Phone hanging / freezing while surfing or playing games etc.
The reason that I am not very keen on Samsung is their eerie habit of freezing / hanging |
My dad is getting around a full day on 100% of battery with 3g data on throughout, With some gaming and a bit of calls.
And, its been 7 days, since dad is using the grand. It's quite a performer, No lags or hanging up issues as such.
I received an software update on grand yesterday, it was of 38mb and after the update battery life has improved. Earlier, it was takinf around 50-60% in 20 hrs but now with same usage, all it took was 30%. So, with 3g on and bit of whatsapp, emails, calls, It can last 2 days easily :)
engrohit,
battery backup is a bit like asking newly weds about their marriage experience. Everyone has a different expectation, lifestyle and interprets the same situation differently. Same with battery backup. :D
I use my BB 9320 (1500mah) extensively enough to kill its battery in just over 12-14 hours. Reasonably lesser usage on my androids (defy/chacha) would have them getting down to 30% just after lunch.
IMHO, check battery backup etc out on xda-developers, where you will get a much larger cross-section, and get specific quirks clarified here.
Hi All,
I am getting a software update for my Samsung SII through Kies. When I tried to install, it is asking 4 GB of space in C drive of my laptop, which currently I don't have.
An update of 4 GB :Shockked:.
Do any of you have any idea, what the update is? My SII is on ICS, so is it a JB update or anything ?

JB update for S2 landed in India more than 2 weeks ago. So, I suppose you r right. But, is your KIES updated to the latest version. Without that you cannot update to JB on your phone if going through KIES

You mean
Harley Owners Group lol:?
Jokes apart, OTA says I am on recent version, hence I think it could be JB.

Yes my KIES is latest, I recently have downloaded it from Samsung India website.
Anyway, if it is JB, right now I am not interested in it, quiet happy with my ICS.

I finally bought the MMX A87 battery for Rs 650 from the service center X, the ext day after visiting the service center. It may have cost extra but that is quick service!
The battery seems so thin now! I played catch with the old battery! :lol
P.S. I had also ordered a new battery for Samsung 2 days back. It was a far less painful experience. Just ordered on Flipkart and it arrived this afternoon. Also note that the samsung needed replacement battery after more than 2 years. It too was swollen like a balloon!
BHPians need your help !
Although i am quite into phones but this time i am confused.
I was using galaxy y duos for sometime. It is damn slow with very less internal memory, but otherwise reliable, tried out Karbonn A21 for a few months, good screen, very lag free experience but it was a huge disappointment today using Karbonn as a navigation tool. Galaxy was fine with positioning but A21 was pathetic today. It couldnt position me properly even outdoors ! even with a-gps it took almost 15 mins to locate myself ! Somehow after getting it to work , the battery went dead in 3 hours, blame it on the big display !
I want to buy a new one and am very inclined towards lumia 520 but from the reviews i have gathered, the battery is just adequate.
Please help me select a phone, My priorities:
Reliability, Karbonn almost left me confused and stranded !
Good battery life.
And priced around 10k. If only lumia 520 had a better battery ! :Frustrati

The 4 GB being demanded is by Windows, not Kies.
Your C drive contains a folder called 'Temp', which temporarily stores the data needed for updates, installations etc. If your C drive doesn't have enough space, just move some contents to another partition of your hard disk. When you have available space, this should work. After update has finished, the memory in temp folder for that particular task is cleared. So always make sure you have your C drive with sufficient memory.

I remember my dad had one in black. This was the sleeker and more classy looking version of the Nokia 6610.

For android OS - you can consider Samsung Ace Duos, Samsung Galaxy Young, Sony Xperia E/E Dual, HTC Desire C etc.
If battery life, reliability and GPS are the only requirements, you could consider Nokia 603, running on Symbian OS (a very power efficient OS).
