They followed the colour code printed on the socket, so no mistake there. but

Simply that. I can make it work by tweaking it! But I don't have the tool to do it properly.

I'll get a cheap one. I'm sure it'll be good for one job, and maybe a few more in future. And I'll cut off the cable ends so as to use fresh cable.

I do not recall any mass market socket having color codes printed. Nevetheless you may double check this order.

white/ orange
orange
white/ green
blue
white/ blue
green
white/ brown
brown

Yes, it does. Or rather, they do. At least one, maybe both, is D-Link.

The WIFI section in amazon is skewed in favor of TP-Link in the below 5K segment. Got one TP-Link Archer C6 V3 reading the reviews as a backup for my router. This model is heavily hyped with too many positive reviews.

But I could notice that it is not able to match my Airtel provided Beetel model in through put as well as build quality. The upload speed is consistently lower. The signal strength is on par if not lesser.

I got the Archer c7 ac1750 recently and flashed it with Openwrt. I am happy with it. In the network traffic graphs I’ve seen upwards of 800mbps wireless throughput while the signal now reaches most corners of my home. The router is capable of up to a total of 1.7gbps of throughput when multiple devices are using it - on paper. I had stopped updating myself on progress in wireless tech for so many years and was plodding on with 802.11n like an ignorant fool. The new 802.11ac router has turned WiFi into a marvellous experience. I also have WiFi plug the tp-link re200 that can act both as a range extender and mesh point. Next step is to make an openwrt 802.11s mesh implementation for fun… it was possible out-of-box with the original tp-link firmware but implementing it using openwrt requires jumping through some hoops.

Not sure how much open wrt firmware will help. Mine is a 100Mbps connection. The Beetel router is consistently providing 92Mbps/93Mbps up/down speeds. TP link router is able to match the down speed. But never crossing 85Mbps up load speed. Agree that it is a small drop, but all I am saying that it is not matching the hype.

WiFi is a mess in general, but 80 mbps is way below expected.. Few details might be helpful in finding out why.
  1. What is the client device on which are you testing ?
  2. Is it possible to you to run a test for troubleshooting ? Change 5 GHz WiFi name AND password and set that up on only on one device. Test upload speed in that device.

I tested in Mac, PC and Galaxy S20. Checked with one device connected to 5G band, removed smart mode. Still same results. Old Router beating C6 head on. I suspect lot of paid reviews by TP link on Amazon.

Seems configuration issue with your router. With 11ac 2x2 router you can easily get 100+ Mbps speed.

Will love to troubleshoot for you.

I bought "TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 Router AX1800 Smart Wi-Fi Router" from Amazon for a good deal. I think the router is giving pretty decent speed on all Wi-Fi connections. Also its one-mesh supported.

This is strange..

1. Was S20 near the router ?
2. Was any other device connected to router ?

Since this issue has caught the fancy of many, let me also pitch in. This could be because of different configurations of the two routers. The less-performing router might have some extra configuration / feature that requires additional processing of outbound traffic (some DPI performed by its built-in web safety module, perhaps?)

I am not aware of any settings. TP-Link configuration was done with Tether app. So the configuration should be optimized I suppose.

All the testing was done in close proximity with no walls in between.

I feel 85Mbps is still decent upload speed. The only problem here is Beetel RVA112 beating the much better reviewed and widely available Archer C6. RVA112 is not even available in open market I think.

Our 24mb/s line had dropped to 5-6 mb/s or worse, so we filed another complaint. We spoke to a local engineer on the telephone, who told us to restart the modem. Ha! it worked. He said, not knowing that, due to my owl-like daily cycle, our modem is in use 24 hours, turn it off at night. At least give it ten minutes to cool down.

I'm slightly dubious, as we don't use the modem's wifi and it doesn't get particularly hot. I asked if it was just because it's quite old now (Betel 777VR1) and can we have a new one. He said, sure you can have a new one, but you have to pay Rs350, and...

<Here's the Good News>

...in three months, you will get fibre, and we'll give you the fibre modem free. And yes, it is fibre to the home. We are already installing the infrastructure.

Whoa! I'm so looking forward to the prospect of 200mb/s! (Just for the hell of it! Frankly, even 10mb/s is enough for us)

By the way, I recall mentioning that I had lost admin access to the Airtel modem. I spent a little time on this recently, going through what would airtel set the password to stuff and... it is the account number.

I am currently running a mesh network with a to link a6v3 and two re305. Works quite stable though had to play around from the default config with inputs from their support forum ( the a6 defaults to a 5ghz band the re305 can't detect), plus the latest firmware on the extenders had some issues with DHCP. My only complaint is that their extenders are all plug in. I use a dc ups for my modem and router because of frequent power cuts - can't do this for the extenders
