re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Im wary of Chinese quality! Heard of Dealextreme, how's their shipping, do they ship free to India? Duty charges?

Will check the local market but more keen on branded products.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this name before :

Surefire

Yes, they ship to India, free. You can pay couple of $ for shipping and get registered airmail, or pay 20$ to get EMS express(if ordering something expensive). Atleast in delhi custom office does not care about stuff like torches and such

re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Thanks Tanvir, I will try Dealextreme.

Also searching for some online dealers in India who supply Finix, Britelight, maglite, etc.

Found this for Eveready: http://www.evereadyindustries.com/business/flashlights/rechargeable-torches.asp

Prices are good.

re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Surefire is way too overpriced, and they have jacked up prices by 25% in May. You can get much better flashlight at that price point. Check the 4sevens brand - it is well reputed, and most of the lights are reasonably priced. The Quark mini is the best buy as of now for EDC (every day carry) uses. They ship to India for free, but I would recommend adding a $5 insurance, just in case.

Yup. I bought an Ultrafire LED (module by CREE, USA) torch from them, and received it last week. 1200 lumens!
$32.80 - UltraFire KF-T60 HA-II XM-LT60 5-Mode 1200-Lumen White LED Flashlight with Strap (1 x 18650) - 18650 Cree Flashlights

I also bought a pair of 18650 batteries and a Charger for them. The torch uses only one battery. $45 for the torch +batteries + charger.

Well this is my third order to Dealextreme; no problems so far. I've not been asked to pay any duty so far and the orders were for $75, $20 and $45 respectively. They ship free of charge, Buttt the shipment will take 30-45 days to arrive.

UltraFire is apparently a Chinese brand. There are many other "fires" in DX; Uniquefire etc.
CREE is the LED driver (module) maker which is an American company and a leader in their line of business. According to people (westerners) who comment/review the products in DX, the CREE driver technology makes one hell of a difference, and I followed their advise....However, the torch is awesome.

More on CREE here:

re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Stanley HID's are good.

Britelite's are good as it comes with a rechargeable battery.

Somehow I love the Maglite. Have been using the LED one for a while.

Hope this helps

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Hi guys, last friday I had gone to the Electrical exhibition ELECRAMA 2012.
While going through all the stalls and pavillions I came to Crompton Greaves pavillion where along with other items of my interest I saw a flash light and a lantern.
They are not simple ones. They are having rechargeable NiMH batteries, but the best part of this torch and lantern is that they can be charged with electrical power socket of 220 volts as well as by CRANKING A SMALL HANDLE provided on the sides which moves a small generator inside and charges the drained battries, which if charged fully will last for good to about 6 hrs of burning ultra white LED lamps.
It has overcharging and deep discharge protection along with water resistant body.
Now these both are very useful for our guys who do lot of non stop day and night driving. It will be also very helpful for those who do night camping where there is no electricity to charge them but are required for the entire night.
I am uploading photos but pls bear with me. Regards.... 26th May 2011 09:43

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Have been using the BriteLite torches for 2 years without any problems. The charger of the earlier Stronglite went bad few months ago. The problem is that you should not switch on the light while charging. It make the battery develop false memories.

Awesome stuff - you won't be looking around for batteries while in a forest / deserted area.

But it shouldn't happen that you've to wind for 1 hour to get 6 hour charge!

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Hi guys, are there any rechargeable flashlights that can be recharged using the cigarette lighter charger inside the car? Any first hand experiences? I intend to buy one but hope to have the charging inside the car only. Thanks!
