Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

I just went through some awesome videos on the nitecore flashlights. There's also a comparo of the nitecore ones with the Fenix, and the nitecores usually have a better spread compared to the Fenix which has a more concentrated throw.

Nitecores reviewed in the videos are more than 3000 lumens. Insane, isn't it?

Is there a way this could be done using an Eveready 3w LED flashlight? Could the bulb be replaced with a higher wattage one?

Yes. Anything is possible. You will need a high power led. You will all also have to machine a Heat sink. Get a driver.... cheaper to spend some 40 $ and buy a 3000 lumen 3×xml flashlight.
I own a 3000 lumen one. Got it for 50 $. Outshines car 60w full beam and needs 4 18350s to run

Thanks for the info. Do you have any photos of the flashlight with/without the car headlights?

I was thinking of buying a couple of them and then set them up inside the cabin so that they can illuminate the road above. A crazy idea, but am willing to give it a thought at least.

Also are there any powerful flashlights which will run on high-powered AA batteries? (I had 2700mAh in mind).

Will post a review when I get down to doing it.
Speaking of AA, the problem is voltage. Most high power flashlights require atleast 3.7V which can come only from 3 AA/AAA in series. Even then 3.6 is the peak for rechargeables after some use. LiIon 18650 etc., give you 4.1V when fully charged, and are capable of supplying very high current.

Can you mention the model number? I have used small Fenix lights, need a more powerful one now.

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

I use a Trustfire T6 running on 3x18650. Picked in US for $25 something. Amazing light. The ultrafire cells I picked from there went kaput in couple of weeks time so using Solarforce sourced from Lightorati since. Very knowledgeable and helpful guys dealing in different types of lights. Highly recommended.

Lightorati is running a Diwali sale till Nov. 3. Flat 12% off + free shipping. Please check their Facebook page for details. I bought a couple of flashlights taking advantage of the offer. Yet to receive them; Lightorati shipped immediately, but Blue Dart is sitting on their butt because of the holidays.

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

I've been using the Maglite Solitaire LED for about 6 to 8 months now.
http://www.amazon.com/Maglite-Solita.../dp/B009TC5XTI and found it to be amazing.

It is as big as a key and works just great.
It works on 1 AAA battery.
Was using the incandescent version before switching over.

Thanks!

I have been to one near Chandigarh. Fascinating place. True, a great range of flashlights there. As for me, I do a trip to Chandigarh once every 2 months and while returning I stop at this store at Zirakpur. I recently picked up 2 foldable chairs. In the hope of using those when I make the long awaited drive to Leh. There are a lot of other stuff which I feel will be useful for my Leh trip. I wish we had more stores like this in North India.

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

Bought this flashlight from eBay - link

It supposedly has the Cree XR-E Q5 LED inside. Not sure if it really does but the damn thing is pretty powerful for its size! It has 3 modes - low brightness, strobe and high brightness.

Clicked these from the fourth floor towards a completely dark area on the abandoned villa near our apartment:

The Lumia 920 clicks good snaps in low light thus the first snap appears a bit brighter. It is completely dark!

I hope it helps when I need it the most! Goes inside the car's toolkit. I don't have to rely on the phone's flash anymore.

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

I own a lot of these ultrafire/Trustfire/Surefire stuff.
Decided to get a nice EDC which can take AA batteries
So sunwayman is the answer.
It gets higher reviews than the TinyMonster,
http://www.sunwayman-usa.com/sunwayman-d40a-xml2.html

tested it out at Manali. Simple phone pics. The light is truly outstanding, and output is equal to <insertyourfavoritehere>fire with 3 LEDs

Re: Best outdoor torchlight / flashlight / torch

maglite is a very popular high end brand. Solid Metal bodies. There are versions of five cells or maybe even six. Now there are LED versions as well. These (esp focussing models) are very popular with doctors, amongst others.
