The Home Theater thread

Latheesh, can you tell us how much you paid for your system? From what I saw in the Norge website, it does not have HDMI connections. Is it right?
btw, where in Bangalore did you get it?:)
VECTOR, Brigade road.
I paid 15.5K for 9.2 and 12K for Norge 1000. I got 6m DAC speaker cable free wit it.
Norge 1000 - If you buy it from Norge directly they charge 11K+ 550Rs shipping.
On the verge of buying the Onkyon HTS 3200 system.
Really like the sound.
The only reason I am unsure is that there is only 1 Onkyo dealer in Calcutta, (who also runs the only service center here).
If there is an issue, I would have to go through him and cannot approach the company directly (this is possible only in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad etc where there are separate company owned service centers)
Can anyone share experiences if you have bought Onkyo in the past..
Guys, I need some help out here
I am planning to get a Home Theater system for my flat in Bangalore. The basic room dimensions are 20" X 11". My budget is around 45-50k. I can manage to spend a couple of thousands more at most. I am more of a movie man but I do listen to music. I would split my movie & music usage as 70:30
I would like to ask you guys to suggest a good package for my requirements. Please note that my knowledge regarding this is zilch :D and I am solely relying on others to suggest something.
I visited Modern World today and they offered me the following packages
1. Onkyo TX-SR 577 Receiver with Onkyo SKS HT 728 speakers (2 towers + 1 center + 2 satellites) - Rs.55000
2. Add 5k to the above and get Pure Acoustics Super Nova speakers instead of the Onkyo ones.
What do you guys think of the above offers? From what I have seen in the forum, nobody rates Onkyo speakers very highly. What about Pure Acoustics speakers? I had not heard about this brand until this guy told me. Is it worth going for this package considering that I have to extend my budget by 10k?
Thanks in advance
Addy
Hi everyone! I am back to badger. AGAIN!
I am doing up my new house this summer, and my hall (20*15 feet) is where I am planning to splurge a little and do a nice entertainment system up.
My setup will be:
1. a 46" or a 50" Full HD TV (not decided which one, but my present Sony Bravia W 200 has blown less than 2 years after buying it, so looking for a good replacement. The Samsung Series 6 LED backlit screen looks a good candidate. Maybe that, or a nice 46" Pana FULL HD LCD)
2. Source: The Xtreamer will be doing the hard work here. FLAC and MKV (read 'uncompressed') data will be fed to the system.
3. Receiver: Couldn't pass off an OH SO YUMMY deal on the Denon AVR-1910 so have ALREADY BOUGHT IT.
4. Speakers: NOW, this is where I want your advice. HOW to go about it? I want to sit and listen to some good music, but also want to watch a lot of movies and TV. I'd like some floor thumping bass to go with the music/movies please.
Floorstanders + Satellites + Active subwoofer is what I think is the norm here.
Coming to the crux of it all, is the fact that I have already spent about 20 k out of the allocated 80-100k budget. SO I have 60-80k to spare for the floorstanders + satellites + subwoofer. I know this is a PATHETIC budget, but clearly this time, there are lots of other priorities. WHAT can we get?
PS: The wiring has been done already. The cable used is Sommer 16 ga speaker cable.
What kind of a deal did you get on the Denon 1910 and from where?

You are looking at 5.1 or 7.1?
Pioneer Todoroki RS-7 speaker system.. Towers+ Active sub 200W+ Surround. All for a mere 30K. Add Panasonic 42" for app 40K. That said, use your rest of the budget for ICE.

Visit ProFX and Vectors for the demo and decide. ProFX is on MG road and Vectors is on Brigade road.
I visited ProFX yesterday and he has sent me a quote for a package
Receiver: Denon 1610
Speakers: Mission MV8 Floor standers (pair), MV C Center speaker, MV DS Surround (Pair), MS 10 Subwoofer.
He has quoted 60k for the whole setup.
How does Denon 1610 compare with Onkyo TX SR577? AFAIK, the Onkyo has 7.1 channel.
I am inclined to go for the Onkyo package with Pure Acoustics speakers. I have listed this package in my previous post. But, I have not seen any reviews on the Pure Acoustics speakers.
I have also been to vector, but the package they suggested works out expensive to me. They will send me a quote today. They suggested the following package
Receiver: Yamaha 365 or Denon 1610
Speakers: Wharfedale Vardus 5.1 speaker package
Guys, I need your help out here. I have to make a decision in 3-4 daysplease:
Addy,
I would say, dont stick on the pricing. HT is something which you can build over time by spending little by little. First buy a good amp or RX (HK/Denon etc) with good Bookshelves (for left R/L). That will also take care of your music. For R/L you can look at JBL/Warfdale/Keff etc. Again center and surround can be chosen according to your space and preferences.
Sub again can depend on your need.
I have AVR130 + R/L Northridge + VCS10 (Bose Center) + 310 (Bose Surr) + Roarr (Sonodyne - Sub). I was not very keen on a good sub. So a basic one is doing the job for me. Mostly I listen to music and so good L/R are must.
Summary do not look at the overall package offered by these guys.
Build it over time, with what you like. That way, you will not be constrained for budget also.
Remember this is an investment that will last for a long time and hence good to choose what you want, rather than crib after buying one.
Last but not least, buy a good regulator or at least a spike buster. Though these things have good regulation, but good to spend that extra 3-4K than spending 10-15K to fix the power management unit of the amp.
Thanks Ampere:),
I would have loved to build my own system, but sadly, I cannot. The only reason I wanted to go in for a package is that I do not have patience to build it over time & also the money (my dad is chipping in). My policy is simple: 'Have money now, will buy whatever I can with it'. Hopefully, I will want to upgrade it in the future, but if I do not buy the whole set now, I am petty much sure that I will not be building it later on. That is the kind of mindset I am in now.:Frustrati
OK I understand sir!
Then I think you should take the Denon + WD combo.
They have known service network (Not that you would be needing it!).

agree: . Though I have been restricted for budget for a looong time, I still have not bought a single component yet as I want to invest in the best. I am planning to start this journey soon in a month or so. I listen to a lot of music and am more interested in music than movies so would start off with a stereo system. Am planning to check out the Sonodyne or Norge stereo amplifiers and get corresponding speakers. Am not investing too much since I want this only for listening to music. I love my metal and hard rock, so will have to check out some system that performs well in this genre of music. Is it possible to get a very good stereo system for 15 ~ 20 k? If I get a stereo amp, would a good CD player do? Yeah, I know, ancient but I love my CDs. Might even hookup the Logitech bluetooth device to play music off the comp to the stereo amp.
So, back to primary question - Is it possible to get a very good stereo system for 15 ~ 20 k? And where in Bangalore, brands etc.
