No Google play for me as well. Galaxy R on stock Gingerbread 2.3.5. Any idea what should be done to update the Market.

P.S: I tried logging into GPS from the PC and after linking my account it still says that the App is 'Purchased'.

I am using few pirated apps which are worth more than INR 3K ;-) but they are NOT listed in the Play Store->My applications. So they basically never get updates (which are going to fail anyway). Never faced an issue like yours.
Try to uninstall the app and then force a sync on your Google account, and then try to go to GPS and install.
I just opened Google Market and it showed me the licensing terms for Google Play - but no updates. It still takes me to Android Market.
For me its a different problem.
I got the 2 screens like below first
Updated and the old Market Icon remained in the app section. Clicked on that and its given a message 'App isn't installed " , Rebooted the device and now there is no icon and app store for me. :Frustrati
Restored the Old Market app through Titanium Backup now i have old market with New Play Books and Play music !!

Don't know how it happened, but mine got changed overnight to Play Store, the app icon graphic and text also changed. Yes I had to tap on Accept and Continue buttons first time.
Now Manualy Updated the Market to Play Shop and the new Play Shop Version is 3.4.7

I am going to sue google. They said something about play, and all I get is a renamed market app. I was looking forward to something like a music / video freebie counter.
