I am completely new to Android, switched from an old 3GS.
Switching on "mobile data" on my Note II shows an "E" denoting edge I suppose, and speeds aren't exactly blazing. I had - and still have - an old 3G plan active on Vodafone. What do I need to do to get 3G going on this?

Go to Settings-->More-->Mobile Networks--> Uncheck the use 2G networks only checkbox.

The battery life on my Xperia Sola has become pathetic after the ICS upgrade. Every night it loses 30-35% charge in 7-8 hours with all data services disabled.
Any ideas to resolve this? Anyone else facing this? |
30-35% overnight is definitely not normal. Try to view the battery usage in the morning and see if any particular app is eating up all the charge? I am using CM7 rom and in that we can see very detailed battery usage statistics and the culprit can be easily brought to light.

Hi Flyingspur,
The E is the 2G edge network which is showing as active on your phone.
First check whether you have the Mobile networks configured for GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode) through the path:
Settings> More>Mobile Networks>Network Mode
The WCDMA is the 3G network. If the auto mode is on, it will switch to a 3G network if available. The 3G network access is shown as 3G/ H/ H+ Depending on the network infrastructure installed in that region.
In case this setting is ok, it could be a problem of 3G network availability/ signal in that area.
Regards.

Thanks, this worked. I had kept it to GSM only. Now it shows H+ and is using my data at H+++++ rate. This Note II thing is truly a behemoth.

Yes, agreed. I went to the big market in gurgaon and got a quote for 32700 for blue (incl fixing screenguard for free) and 33000 for white. Will try and wheedle them for another 200 or so more!lol:

200 only?
I think you should start talking about Rs 2000 off and then settle at Rs. 1000 discount in addition to what you are being offered.
The margins are fat on the high end models.
My Galaxy Nexus has arrived! Ordered yesterday evening and I got the item today afternoon! Fastest shipping I ever received.
Unpacked, and put it for an initial charging with device turned off - yes I still have this paranoia of first full charge with device off :)
First impression on body quality - plastic is super thin! Nowhere near the quality of my
HTC Desire! When I opened the back panel for inserting battery, it felt like it is going to break into pieces if I apply some more pressure.
EDIT: Warranty card indicates that this is imported from Africa. That too a white one! :D
I tried the Apex Launcher, Got a bit of a lag in the screen scrolling and app openings so uninstalled that as well as Go Launcher. Back to Stock as of now.
Any decent Music Player that you guys can suggest. Tried the Poweramp Trial Version, however its more suited for the external speaker. I want something that sounds good for both the earphones as well as speaker.
What's your opinion on htc one s? Is anyone using this phone? Any other suggestions in this range?

I tried the apex launcher today too, and i am very happy with it. I am loving it, Infact it's better then sense 4.0 UI in my One V and after using it for a day, i can say that, it's saving my battery too, Earlier it used to packup in 10hrs or 12 hrs at max.
And with apex, It's been over 10hrs and still, It can go for another 3-4 hrs atleast :)
And regarding the music player, I am very happy with the power amp, On earphones and on the speakers both.
Cheers,
Sameer
According to article on Mashable, Sony has stated this about its 2011 and earlier Xperias -
“After thorough evaluation, we have concluded [these models] will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich,” said Sony Mobile in a blog post, promising to keep supporting these products with firmware upgrades.
And we all know about the quality about Sony's upgrades. They have botched up ICS update as everyone knows and have not even addressed very basic bugs till date. Nor have they given any timeline for addressing the same. Now they have denied Jellybeans. Perfect. My next phone will probably not be a Sony.

That's the fastest dual core phone but Imo, it is not worth for the price.
Edit : this is my first post from Galaxy nexus :)

Hi
HTC one S is a well speced phone. But the price in India is quite high and also in India we get the 1.7 ghz S3 processor vs the 1.5 ghz S4 processor sold in international market. If you can source the phone from abroad you will not only save cash but also get a better device. Just read up some reviews online between 1.7S3 vs 1.5S4.
