Re: Home Printer - Where Cartridge does not dry out soon

I have the Canon PIXMA MG2570S and use the PG-810 cartridge. Consistently, the printer tool throws the low-ink error after about ~40 pages although the cartridge claims to print 220 pages. Although I don't expect the entire 220 pages, I'd at least expect ~150 pages of a typical page (boarding pass/ticket etc).

Anyone with similar experiences?

Re: Home Printer - Where Cartridge does not dry out soon

Bumping an quite thread.

I am looking for a home usage colour printer specifically to be used for my son's school activities purposes. What is the best option available? I am even unable to specify what my actual requirement should be. Getting confused with inkjet vs deskjet vs laser printer. The only requirement I can think of is the printer should have wifi capability, not interested in cable provision types. The printing demand is usually 25-30 pages per month (as of now).

Can any experts who have recently bought one help in this case?

Ghodlur,

I have a Canon MP250 series printer(All in one) at home. This is not a WI-FI enabled one. Irrespective of connectivity, do bear in mind the following

1. Laserjet is an overkill for the home use, color laser jets will cost a lot with the additional cost of replacing the toner.

2. Inkjet printers use ink cartridges or you can have an ink tank installed. Ink cartridges last about 100 -120 sheets of black & white / color printer

3. The above printer has a good color reproduction and the print quality can be adjusted according to need (from photo printing to fast printing)

4. The cartridges are expensive 1200 for the black and 1500 for the color. The alternatives are
a. Use a color filling kit at home and fill the ink yourself or call Abbeefill to fill up the cartridge. Cost about 350-450 depending on the cartridge type.

5. HP Cartridges are inexpensive, you can get two for the price of one canon.

6. Finally have you explored the option of cloud print? This can be setup using any old printer which is attached to a desktop. Once you have cloud print setup, you can print from anywhere (mobile office another location etc)
(Cloud Prihttps://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&u act=8&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwi17Oeg2o3OAhUDpI8KHQKABcUQF ggbMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fcloudpri nt%2F&usg=AFQjCNH0qi9-DNhlgRzt-eeFYCxSo03w5w&sig2=BchM2Teb1MR0TrMGWdq1PA&bvm=bv.1 27984354,d.c2I

Hope this helps

Cheers

Ghodlur Go for Ink tank printers if you have not already purchased.
Epson and brother have good models and recently Canon and HP have also launched ink tank printers.

I found Brother models to be best feature wise. It has google cloud printing support and droplet size is 1.5 pico liter compared to 2 pico liter of

Just to give an idea the ink tank has 75 ml ink for each colour which claims to print 5000 pages colour and 6000 pages B&W compared to this the Normal cartridges ( HP / Canon /Epson) have 4 to 12 ml of ink.

And original refill ink for brother ( CMY and Black 4 bottles 75 ml) is 1000 - 1500 Rs on ebay and Epson ink is similarly priced. Third party inks are even cheaper ( 300 - 400 Rs) but it voids warranty.

So in one fill of ink you have supply for whole year and to prevent drying up of print head you can fire a test print or a photo print once a week from wherever you are using your mobile phone

PS: Can anyone tell me a good third party ink brand for ink tanks printers ? I searched on various websites and found that 3rd party dye inks are marked for printers ( Epson / Canon ) etc can these dye inks be used
on any inkject model ? Same question for black pigment ink

Re: Home Printer - Where Cartridge does not dry out soon

I have brother Inktank T500W model.

For last 4+ years original Ink is going fine and no problem of blocked jet etc. Printer is being used for normal home needs printing kids homework etc.
Original brother 3 colour Inkset is 1800rs thinking of doing first refill after couple of months.
There are cheaper 3rd party inks as well but I feel no need to try them as 4+ years is a good time.

Learned from a person who was in Ink refilling business earlier that Printers shouldn't be left powered off.
When printer is kept powered periodically software heats the ink and prevents from jamming.

Edit: Just saw my own post of Aug 2016 on this thread and realized that my printer is 4+ years old and not 3 as I was thinking so editing the post
See my original post in this thread for more details.

After long use of this printer I can advise that only thing I miss is auto document feeder for scanner it is a handy feature for approx 1000rs more.
So go for model with auto doc feeder.

Re: Home Printer - Where Cartridge does not dry out soon

I bought and installed 2 brand new original (color as well as B/W) cartridges for my Canon MG3170 printer just 2 weeks ago (the printer was lying unused for 5 years, and may have been moved around the home
over the years albeit in upright position I'm quite sure; was trying to resurrect it now), but have been unable to resurrect it bcoz its feed mechanism seems ineffective. I'm guessing it's either been dislodged or has lost its grip somehow.

Any idea what I can do?

I've tried the options in the "maintenance" tab via software, etc. No luck.

I bought a hp deskjet 2677 all in one inkjet printer around a month back. My printing requirement is, maybe 20 pages a month or less than that. How frequently should I use the printer to avoid the ink from drying out?

20 pages a month is good enough to keep the ink from drying out. Take color prints to ensure that both the cartridges are used

Never mind, I called Canon Svc Center and a technician came the same day and replaced the rollers. Working great now. Canon Svc technician was simply superb and professional (from franchisee "3A Infotech" in Ulsoor in Blore)

Very reasonably priced too. Visit charges Rs 530, plus roller charges Rs 120. Total Rs 650.

Re: Home Printer - Where Cartridge does not dry out soon

Any users of Color Laser printer here. I am looking to buy one but the options seem to be very limited. I print sporadically maybe once a week or 10 days. Hence not really that keen or inkjets or ink tanks. I like the comfort of laser ( I have a MF laser printer)

If anyone compared, how do the colors look with respect to Ink printers. I read they are not as bright

Colour laser printers are not only expensive to buy but expensive on a per copy basis. Unless you have very large volumes (and you do not seem to), it is much cheaper to use commercial lase printer services. That is unless your prints are time critical and you want full control on quality.

We had one where I last worked. It was a consultancy firm. We had over 50 desktop laser printers, 10 high volume laser printers and at least 5 large format inkjet printers, so a colour laser printer was not much of a burden. For an individual or a small establishment a colour laser printer makes sense only if your volume is really high and you use up a set of cartridges every month.

More than time critical it is the convenience of having one at home. I seem to get irritated when I don't have printer handy. And I don't like going to a store to get 1 or 2 prints. It feels too much effort. I foresee my usage increasing with my girls art / school work getting added.

To be honest color printer is pricey and is not needed right away. Price per print will be too expensive as well. But if the printer is there I will use it. Anyway with lasers even if the usage is occasional they will last. (never followed the minimum printing principle). I will probably use up a ream of paper in 3 - 6 months henceforth.

Are there really excellent ink tan printers which do not suffer the ink drying or smudges issue?

The cheapest HP printer I could find is HP LaserJet P1007 Printer overview - HP Home & Home Office products. The toner cartridge is expensive, but I guess even then it would cost less than a rupee per page.

Xerox printer Phaser 3117 Laser Printer from Xerox has the performance you need

An excellent comparison chart Printer: Compare Laser Printers with Network, Scanner, Fax, Photocopier & More at CompareIndia.com - Page 1. You can base you decisions on this!

So you can get a laser printer for around 5.5K.
This one retails for 7.7K (comes with a toner cartridge I think): https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00SHFP99W/..._4j8kFb5YYB96B

I also heard that laser printer toner cartridges don't dry out with infrequent use, unlike inkjet cartridges. So this seems perfect for most, where monochrome is needed in 90% of the cases. For the remaining 10% rare cases, I don't mind walking to my nearby stationary store and printing it there.

I have brother as well as HP laser MFP. This should be a pretty handy model to have esp with Duplex there. But do look for models that support wifi if the function is only printing. That way you can scan or take photos and print directly via wifi.

Re: Home Printer - Where Cartridge does not dry out soon

The least expensive WiFi laser printer seems to be: https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00NPW13DS/..._968kFb6NARA8C

But perhaps the downside of laser printers is that they have a very long startup time? Is this true?

If so, it may not suit me.
