Why go for a first hand??
Why not exploit the second hand car market!!
Invest in a car that can scale with your driving, It should be easy to handle and as you get comfortable with it, it needs to allow better speeds with good handling

Think about it?

I guess an alto will be the best bet for your requirement.

this is one time I would sugget a used car. colllege kids then to abuse any car (sorry for the generalizations but this is my experience with my nephew and other kids in my building). A USED Alto/Base Santro would be perfect.

Between these two, it depends on the deal one gets.

Nope. I know too many kids that are dead due to this. I will NOT recommend a bike for Mumbai.

Sorry for sounding like your OLD man but it was just my fatherly instincts.

Navin, I second that - even though I myself have changed a few bikes ranging from RTZ 125 to Bullet 350... I know how silly one can get while riding them. My son is almostly 4 now - if I had my way I'd never let him touch a bike!!!

Get a used Conti for about 50k or less. Plenty of space to pack friends in, and it shows real attitude because pimping it up isnt very expensive.

I'm serious. If I were a college kid I would do this or get a Jeep if I wanted something smaller.

What are kids coming to these days? Alto, Santro

I dunno, but me gets a feeling that Shuee is a member of fairer sex. Sorta get this impression from the buying crieteria (maybe wrong though, in which case, my apologies).

However, for college days, few things come close to a used gypsy. Since this is a first car, I would not recommend a second hand jeep since old diesels are known to be heavy on maintenance and not very reliable.

A gypsy on the other hand....well, no comparisons. Get a Carb king (1.3L) for about 2-2.25 L (2000 model) and spend the rest on pimping it up!

Yes I agree good bikes are not for everyone. You should *earn* them. You know what I mean ...

I agree with navin about bikes. Go for a used Alto/santro or if you find one a used Palio GTX

Spot on, man. Well said! When you are a college kid, the adrenalins running high. You care two hoots about practicality and only want something "cool". My Jeep was a hit with the chicks and that was the only thing I could see myself going to college in. I can also attest from experience that the back seat offers more "utility" than you can imagine. Yup, things are possible.

@shuee : Go get your own cool. A used Gypsy would be superb. If you still want practicality, its the Alto or Santro for you. The spark will exceed your budget.
