Mazda All Set to Enter India

Mazda, The Japanese car maker is all set to enter India very soon either through a JV or through a fully owned subsidiary.

1st car to be launched will be a hatchback, probably the Mazda 2. They may also include the RX8 as an import.

News is confirmed. Other details not known yet.

Yes Yes Yes Yes!

I love Mazda 2's looks and have been seeing a black one regularly near my house! Can't wait for it to launch!

Any chance of the legendary MX5 coming our way?

JV with Ford?

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Isn't the Mazda2 built on the same platform as the current EU Ford Fiesta?

If so, curious as to the pricing of the 2. Will it compete with the i20?

I think this is a good move to bring some Ford platforms without cannibalising the current Ford line-up.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

I have a friend in the UK who works for Mazda, he got an email regarding this from some other employee and plans are finalizing. I do not know whether Mazda will have any association with Ford India or not. One can treat this news as a Strong rumor.

Awesome! Im a big fan of the Mazda 2 . IIRC before the launch of Ford Figo , people had predicted Mazda 2 to be sold in a JV as a small car from Ford's stable.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Its good to see more car manufactures entering the India bandwagon. And its always welcome to see another japanese manufacturer enter the fray.

From the looks of the Mazda 2 seems like a good competitor to i20,Fiesta hatch.Swift and Polo.

Mazda will however have its work cut out in creating a brand image for themselves, they need to be a bit more aggressive than nissan IMO.

Mazda can utilize ford's production capacity, share assembly lines with the fiesta hatch to reach economies of scale.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

At last the remaining Japanese major also coming to India.
Me want the BT-50 and the Rx-8 as an import.
But it will be the 2,3 and 6 that will be the mainstream.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Thought Mazda has good cars in its basket dont think they will do well in India might be they will be a good member just like Nissan is now. But dont think they will be planning to become a game changer.
I am kind of very sure that they will not come into JV with Ford here. First because Ford has spent already so much investment in getting its own framework set up. It will not give out its advantage.
Secondly, Ford had made its intention clear when it sold its stake in Mazda, it wont want to go the route of joining hands again with the Japnese heads.
