Re: Media / Ad Blunders I really don't know what has happened to the BMW's Social Media Team. Off late they've been making stupid mistakes after mistakes. It almost feels like a teenager has gotten control of their account. Or perhaps by putting out such garbage, they expect to attract millennials to their brand. Either ways, compared to their past, like their cars (I'm looking at you the FWD BMW 2 Series), their advertisement too is a shadow of themselves. Here are some of their blunders over the past 2 months. - In November 2020, they released the new BMW iX and tried to be cool on the internet with slogans like "OK, Boomer. And what’s your reason not to change?". As expected this was highly criticized for being too distasteful, hostile and disrespectful. They had to issue an apology a mere 3 days later (link here)

- Next they tweeted this on Dec 9th, 2020
"Tell us you drive a BMW without telling us you drive a BMW" (link here)
As you would imagine, this did not go down well with the people and they were absolutely unforgiving! Most of them complaining how awful and unreliable and how expensive they are to own. A couple of replies stand out from the rest. Here is Tyler Hoover's reply (link here)
Here is another one. This one is sad because its the E60 generation M5, a car I own. They only made a thousand units and only second time in history was there an M5 in an estate body style. Apparently the cause of the fire was a faulty power steering hose. (link here)
- Then on Dec 24th, 2020, they come out with these god awful photoshopped images of the new BMW X7. This looks so amateurish. How hard was it for BMW to actually drive the damn X7 in the snow and take pictures of it

Just look at the photoshop masterpiece under the front wheels.
- And finally today Jan 3nd, 2021, Pièce de résistance
They upload a drifting video of the new BMW M2 and *clearly* overlaid the audio from Audi / Lamborghini 5.2 V10. And just look at how horrible the video came out. None of the audio is synced with the video and they used the wrong engine sound. I guess they wanted to convey the message that since they pump fake engine noise in the car, may be customers can choose any engine noise.
After public outcry BMW did take the video down but not before thousands ridiculed them for it. Jason Cammisa has it on his Instagram page.
Here is the video link
You expect them to be a bit more professional right? What a fall from grace, especially considering that in the past they made proper commercials called "BMW Films" with superstars such as Madonna, Guy Ritchie and Dakota Fanning. Most importantly all of their stunts were real and not photoshopped.
Just a reminder of what BMW Commercials used to be
And my favourite of them all is this |
