Media / Ad Blunders

As the title suggests, this thread is dedicated to advertisement blunders ! Let's restrict it to automobile adverts in India only. We could include online adverts, print media, television adverts etc.

Am kicking off the thread with a Skoda vRS flyer/brochure. And no, this is not photoshopped ! I have the original paper version with me - have had it for quite a few years now.

Check the ABS section outlined in Yellow. Anti braking system anyone?

ps: Mods - didn't find any similar thread, hence created this. Please merge if one exists.

re: Media / Ad Blunders

Till recently we had the Maruti Swift website having the official tag line as "You are the FULE" !! I even sent a mail to the customer care and nothing was done, though it was corrected recently. I always thought they intentionally kept it like that to read as "You are the fool" thinking of people who wait for ages to get the delivery [Err, even I was one of them with 4 month delivery time]

@shuvc, I don't think Anti Braking System is a blunder. Anti-lock braking system is also popularly known as the former and is very abundantly used even to this day. The problem though is if one asks the sales rep to elaborate on it, the creativity of the answer is only fit for our jokes thread.

Remember the I10 test drive?

The favorite shot: square drive, leg drive, and the i10 test drive.

What is a leg drive?
Never mind, it was corrected later.

There used to be an Ambassador ad (I think it was the 1800 ISZ) model which proudly carried the punchline as "1800 cc of raw power"....ehhhh cc as a measure of power???

re: Media / Ad Blunders

There was an Advertisement in a local newspaper posted in some thread by a BHpian, don't remember where it was posted but it was something like that.

"Why buy a 3 cylinder sedan when you can buy a Honda City at the same price?"

Now there is no three cylinder sedan on sale now days.
This was basically a dealer specific ad printed in a newspaper in south India.

This new animation touted as "baap of cars" for Scorpio is like a shame on the SUV. At least pitch it against the right category. Its like you are agreeing that your competition is with the "cars" And the end where the car oil leaks is in poor taste. Its like they took a normal hindi movie and replaced the cast. I tweeted Anand Mahindra about this as well.

re: Media / Ad Blunders

A bit off - topic; An Ad is usually written in English - one should see it translated into vernacular. They usually manage to find an extinct word and place it in the advert. Some such words usually cause laughter, some irritate.

I see some carmakers saying electronic ORVMs. It is actually electric ORVMs. nothing electronic about them. There is just an electric motor which move the mirrors. No diodes/resistors/IC chips to call it elecrtonic.

This not actually a blooper - but you feel sorry for FIAT after seeing their new ad

"CAR OWNERS WORLDWIDE TRUST FIAT'S 1.3L MULTIJET DIESEL ENGINE. WHY NOT YOU?"

Seems like they are their wits' end as to why Indians are not buying their cars

To Fiat : Of course we trust your 1.3L multijet engine. See how many Swifts, Dzires, Vistas and Manzas we are buying.

Hyundai apologizes for U.K. commercial that depicts suicide attempt.

For the second time in a month,( after the FORD commercial) an automaker has apologized for the work of an overseas marketing firm, this time for a commercial depicting a man trying to kill himself in his vehicle.
