This service is discontinued for the public.

A senior official from NIC has confirmed the removal of the vehicle search by his office. "Being handled from New Delhi, the NIC has decided to disable the option following the directions from the ministry. Hence, there is no search facility now available for the common citizen through the website, which was in fact introduced for the citizens at the first place in Nashik in mid-2013," the officer added.

An official linked to the NIC, on the condition of anonymity, said, "The NIC decided to discontinue the option to public as it witnessed issues of duplication of the chassis and engine numbers by sellers to re-sell their vehicles in the market."

With most of the state RTOs providing this feature in their website, I don't see a big difference whether NIC provides this or not.

VAHAN space Number service is now active and is available for almost all states.

It is working now.

To get details of any vehicle, send an SMS to 07738299899 and get the owner & vehicle details instantly.

Type VAHAN space VEHICLE NUMBER and send the SMS to 07738299899.

Example: VAHAN HR26AB1234

Note : SMS is Chargeable
