Looks stunning. Like a mini Range Rover Evoque. Will set sales charts afire if launched in this coulour scheme.

Maruti XA Alpha Delayed, Launch Not At 2014 Auto Expo.

However seems Maruti Suzuki has run into issues with the prototype which has delayed the launch. The XA Alpha will go on sale in the second half of next year.

The automaker is working on two big launches, one being the YL7 hatchback which replaces the A-Star and Ritz, while the other is the YL1 sedan which replaces the SX4. The S-Cross is also expected but no official confirmation on when it will arrive.

I quite liked the design so got intrigued and inquired with a friend of mine who owns a Maruti dealership.
He told me that the production ready car should roll out in November 2013 and the XA-Alpha will go on sale by March 2014.
Now i really don't know how far this will be true, but given the success of the Ecosport Maruti will definitely wake up from slumber.

Moreover, i have never been a BIG fan of Maruti, especially in recent years when the technology has advanced so much and Maruti cannot keep pace.
Also, Maruti and for that reason even Suzuki is only known for small cars. Their SUV / mini-SUV attempts are ridiculous and have failed miserably.

So i'm just playing the wait and watch game to see what Maruti actually comes up with in the production ready model of this car, while I wait for me Ecosport to get delivered :)

Relax! It's just the concept! :D

The production car should come with 15"-16" wheels.

Very True. It is not the size that matters, it is how you use it.

But i have heard its going to have the Dzire diesel engine. Is it true ?
If yes, then that will make this car very under-powered right ?

Not Dzire but Ertiga engine with 90 ps

Slightly off-topic, but I've heard that Maruti is even readying a revamped Gypsy with a 1.3-litre Diesel engine and a 1.2 Petrol. Will be shown as concept at the Expo. Mahindra Thar's sales have made Maruti look into this. HOpe this is true

Whoever is running the strategy of Maruti is way, way behind the curve in the current Indian market. They missed the bracket of i20, dropped their guard with sx4 in entry level sedan segment and now the mini suv segment. Typical behaviour of a market leader like Nokia.

That'll be quite fantastic and finally give Mahindra and the Thar something to really think about. We've seen the 1.3 Fiat Multijet unit in a RWD application on the Premier Rio. So, a rear wheel driven, Multijet engined Gyspy is an interesting hot possibility. Force Motors is as unresponsive as ever with the Gurkha. Talking of the Gurkha, a new BS4 engined model is due early next year. So, if the Gypsy actually makes it in time for the Expo, there'll be 3 off roaders for enthusiasts to choose from, this side of the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes Benz G-Wagen.

Cheers,

Jay

Read this on Motorbeam: This car has delayed its launch and it will not be in the 2014 auto expo.
Maruti is definitely easing things for Ecosport to capture more and more of the market.

LOL! :uncontrol Is this some kind of joke from Motorbeam?

First they said XA Alpha will be launched by the end of the 2013, without any evidence to support their claim. Many over here wondered how could it be so fast. I recall fellow BHPian Viju (ex-MSIL employee) categorically stating the car won't be here for some years. Can't locate that post now. Even the concept shown at the 2012 Auto Expo was no where close to being production ready.

And now Motorbeam says the car won't be ready in 2013 as MSIL has run into issues with the prototype? Where do they get these info from? :uncontrol

We will surely catch the prototype on road before a launch. Please don't go by this hogwash.

Is the XA Alpha a blatant copy of a SSangyong SUV. Check the picture below.

More info on the Ssangyong vehicle here http://www.rushlane.com/ssangyong-mo...2-1227064.html

If it is true, I wouldn't be surprised. What else would you expect from Maruti?

Finally got the name of the concept - it is the Ssangyong XIV1 - shown at the Frankfurt auto show in 2011. More pictures from the show can be found here http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/14/s...rankfurt-2011/

And just so everyone sees 'what I mean by a copy', here is a pic of the XA Alpha

followed by the Xiv-1 concept

I dont see any copying. In fact the Ssangyong seems more inspired from Swift's design in the pillars.
