Tata nano CNG Tank Capacity is 35 liters. My friends WagonR CNG has 60 liter tank which holds barely 8 KG of CNG. WagonR has range of about 200 to 250 kms on CNG.

Now going with 35 liter tank it can hold around 4 KG of CNG. Assuming 40 kms per kg as mileage for CNG nano. Range comes around 150 kms in single filling.

Here in Pune CNG filling is real pain. You should have 1 to 2 hours and lot of patience for one tank fill. With 150 Kms optimistic range... you will need frequent visits to CNG station. That will be real pain. I do not know what is situation in Mumbai or Delhi.

I always think LPG is better option, as it is widely available all over Maharashtra. Pricing is arounf Rs.46 per liter I think. And assume Mileage will be around 20 Kms per liter. 35 liters tank will give range of 700 Kms. That is huge benefit for little more money over CNG. CNG nano will have running cost Rs.1 per KM approx. And LPG nano will have Rs.2.5 per km. I do not know if my all assumptions are flawed.

I think LPG Nano will give countrywide huge market for Nano. I will by one on the day it is introduced. I hope they are listening... Or I am also ok with regular Nano with LPG conversion if all firing nano thing is thing of past. Have anybody tried converting nano to LPG?

While searching online I found that some people have converted nano to LPG. 15 liters tank is available which is fitted in boot. Mileage is around 27 kms per liter. Kit price is around Rs.18000. I do not have that link with me right now so I am really sorry I can not give that link, that was some other blog.

But it will void warranty which is 4 years for nano. Under the boot, engine is placed which causes little bit heating and Gas Tank is above this. Which adds big risk of explosion. Under the seat gas tank is always better option to avoid this. And Company fitted LPG is always good. Please come up with LPG version of Nano along with CNG. Sure shot sell numbers will be skyrocket.

Yes, going in for LPG better in current situation as there are not many CNG dispensing stations. And long queues at the few stations.

I have heard a couple of Nanos were converted to LPG but I was told that the RTAs do not permit the fitment of LPG kit in Nanos.

According to BusinessLine, the Nano CNG will be launched in the next six months.

On a related note, Rohin Nagrani of BSMotoring tweeted today that, there will be a Nano refresh in 2013 and it will have a hatch that can be opened. So the CNG Nano might as well have this feature, too.

It is a common practice in US etc to have minor updates every model year and a total revamp once in 4-5 years. Tata Nano trying do something similar?

Looks so. Also, I asked him if this refresh will get the rumored 3 Cylinder engine, he replied in negative. According to him the bigger engine will come in the next gen Nano.

Re: Tata Nano CNG

How about safety?

There have been numerous instances of Nano catching fire with the petrol engine, has this issue been identified and rectified completely? If not, won't CNG add to the risk?

What fire incidents? the last fire incidents were reported in the Gen 1 Nano. Yes Tata took ownership, and yes none have been reported since. On the other hand more percentage of fire incidents were repoted for VW/Skoda cars, and the company Never took ownership>
The nano is safe> Dont worry!

Most of the times, it was due to improper handling of wiring harness / not using relays for the additional electronic / electric accessories fitted by un authorized and in experienced mechanics. Heard from reliable sources. Though TML has taken ownership, the proof of these causes was not completely traced due to lack of proper evidence.

If one takes care of these, nano is a very safe and reliable product Indian's should feel proud off. I am taking about the Engineering point of view only. After Sales Service is a different ball game.

Re: Tata Nano CNG

I am desperately waiting for Nano CNG/LPG. I am looking for car for my parents which is cheaper to run and own. I don't know what is taking so much time for Tata to launch Nano CNG/LPG version.

I came across at least 20 people who are not buying nano because LPG conversion is not feasible and dangerous. If Tata could launch LPG version then I can see nano sells numbers doubled in few month.

Re: Tata Nano CNG

Saw, during my evening hill walk, 7 Nanos parked inside ARAI. Looks like something big is cooking on the variants front.

Bombay is not a problem for CNG - I have 3 CNG stations within 1 km from my house. And there are other CNG stations all over the place. And if I go in the late mornings or afternoons - I have to just wait for 2-3 cars ahead of me. Autos have a separate line at every CNG station I have filled at in Bombay.

I can only fill around 8 kg at one time though - gives me just 150 km between fillings which is a pain. I would have loved a 225-250 km range per filling.

Re: Tata Nano CNG

I believe with CNG Nano will give approx 32+ km/kg and even with 6 kg filled gas it can go nearly 200kms which is great for city run arounds.
