FM should have announced the extension atleast 15 days earlier, instead of waiting till the last week.

Would have prevented prospective buyers (like me ) doing panic booking this week!

Re: Budget 2014 - Car prices to come down due to reduction in Excise Duty!

Great news for me! Last 2 weeks was very depressing as i haven't got my Ecosport yet which was supposed to be delivered last month. The hike would have made me poorer by 50k. After going through countless speculations and mostly -ve outlook from sites like ET i almost went ahead to cancel my eco to buy something which i will get within this month... but didn't. The gamble payed off.

Govt. will invest Rs.37,880 crores for building roads

Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister has proposed to invest Rs.37,880 crore in National Highways Authority of India and State Roads, including Rs.3,000 crores for the North Eastern part of India. In the Current Financial Year, the government targets to build 8,500kms of road across the country.

This move will not only result in improved road connectivity across India but is also expected to give a boost to the struggling road construction industry as well as construction equipment manufacturers.

I fervently hope for the improvement of the roads in the North - Eastern part of our country. The North-East is blessed with some of the most beautiful driving environment/scenery one could hope to see. It will be a treat for petrol-heads if such roads are upgraded at the earliest.

Roads in the North East are as good or as bad as in many other parts of the country. There's no denying the fact that the roads need drastic improvement, but its true for many other parts of the country. Except for the remote areas along Barak valley and the road in the hill districts leading towards Manipur and Mizoram, roads in general are in decent condition for getting to the tourist places. The 2 main highways running west to east right through Assam is good enough with 4 laning almost completed till Nagaon. (of course, with some diversions in between but best part being no tolls as yet)
Sorry for going OT, but just wanted to point this out as there are already lots of negative publicity about the north east, and lest someone assume that roads are the main hindrance in driving in north east. Its not, folks, just drive in.

Re: Budget 2014 - Car prices to come down due to reduction in Excise Duty!

Positives:
  1. excise duty concession till December 2014
  2. reduction in steel prices
  3. elimination of customs duty on auto components
Now the real question is - can we expect to see a price reduction soon from our automakers?

I have not followed up the budget, but can you provide more details about the customs duty? Can I import spares for my personal use without customs duty?

Re: Budget 2014 - Car prices to come down due to reduction in Excise Duty!

The excise duty cut period is now extended for three more months, with the validity expiry date set as March 2015.

ET has quoted Minister for Heavy Industries, Mr. Anant Geete as;
Quote:
"I think the industry needs support thus the excise duty cut will continue beyond December and shall be extended at least till March 2015,"
The government has earlier extended the excise duty incentive by six months to December 31 2014.

Re: Budget 2014 - Car prices to come down due to reduction in Excise Duty!

Car makers in India have reportedly accelerated their production levels in the run up to the end of 2014. The reason cited for this, is uncertainty regarding the excise duty cut continuation.
