All Mercedes cars prices have been hiked by a flat 4%. This effectively means the C class price has been increased by 2 lakhs. From 40.9 to something like ~43 lakhs.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

Mercedes-Benz launched the W205 C-Class in India last year in its petrol guise i.e. the C 200. The German car maker will now launch the C-Class diesel in its C 220 CDI specification on February 11th, 2015. Like the C 200 petrol, the diesel will also be coming in as a direct import.

Expect the C 220 CDI to be dearer than the C 200 petrol by around Rs 1 Lakh or more. Local assembly of the C-Class range is expected to begin later into the 2nd half of 2015.

The 328i 2.0L petrol makes about 250 bhp and 350 nm of torque with a superb ZF 8 speed AT as against 181 BHP and 300 nm of the C200 with a 7 speed. Unfortunately neither BMW nor Mercedes are bringing in their 335i (3.0L V6) or C300 (2L 4 pot with 240 bhp) /400 (3L V6) to India. So Mercedes should have ideally brought in the C300 at this price to be fair to Indian customers and to compete with the 328i. Bringing C200 at this price point seems to make no sense except to lure in / dupe early clutch of buyers.

Since not many went for the 328i, I do not think many will go for the new C either. In fact with this pricing, it may result possibly in increase in sales of the 328i, which still remains a very good drivers car. But with the Indian penchant for bling, maybe Mercedes may beat the other 2 Germans, yet. The C200 once when made in India with a few less options and say 10L cheaper will finally sell more units like the current C200.

320d/A4 2.0TDi are very much lower priced and will still sell in much larger numbers and sensibly Mercedes is not bringing in the C diesel as a CBU as it will have no takers at pricing of 10-12L+ over the competition.
Unfortuantely the 328i has been discontinued in india. I checked on the price list on the bmw india website and there is no such model in the list . Later i got it confirmed from the bmw showroom. The 116i has also been discontinued.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

These prices are atrocious! Considering the low (lowest in the last few years) prices of crude, and therefore, plastics and rubber parts that make up a significant portion of the car, they should have (could have?) priced it cheaper or perhaps at par than the outgoing model, despite the increase in perceived quality.

Yes, you are right, the 328i has been discontinued. Expected actually, I believe it had reached a stratospheric Rs. 57L OTR Mumbai and this is BEFORE the January excise hike. It was almost fully optioned so therefore the high pricing. But then pricing it at after excise hike OTR 58-60L or even say Rs. 55L after discounts, etc. would simply make no sense for BMW or anybody, so they have discontinued it.

So for now there is no competition really for the new C. A4 new model is still a couple of years away and the current is quite old.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

Mercedes-Benz introduced the W205 C-Class in India in its petrol guise last year as a direct import. In February 2015, the German automaker launched the C-Class diesel along with the locally made C-Class petrol. According to a media report, the highly anticipated AMG C 63 S will be launched in the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

Saw the C220 CDI coming out of the stockyard in Whitefield, Bangalore. Car has wonderful road presence and the rear end of the car looks amazing. Has a really nice squat'ed stance.

Sorry about the poor quality of pictures.

Mercedes just got a very good reason for not reducing the C's prices :-(

To mods,
Just curious, when can we expect the official T-bhp test drive review of C-220 CDI coming up? There is one available alongwith AMG factory visit but that's not the Indian version and also outside India.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

Have spotted the new C in Mumbai a few times now (and in different shades too - blue, white & silver).

The shape is really good & in metal does feel really well finished.

BUT, the shocker is the ride height / stance which is too high for it to look good & almost ends up looking like a crossover (i may be exaggerating a bit, but still the height is really an eye sore). The wheel well gap is partly to be blamed

Attaching a few pics from Autocar India review for reference which clearly will make you understand what i am complaining about;

^ Just look at that odd stance

^ Note the wheel well gap

Well, we all know this is done specifically for India & its good for the ground clearance / practicality etc... but IMO Merc have taken the precautionary measure to a whole new unnecessary level & spoiled the look of the car to a great extent :(

The ride height is certainly too high, and the poor choice of wheels offered adds to the effect. Whatever C classes I've seen are spoiled because of the above 2 factors.
