Nope.

Penned down for a Q3 (festive season) 2017 launch.

If Pelican does not come equipped with an AMT unit from day one, TATA would be going back a step. If the GenX Nano has an AMT and Pelican does not, the USP will be lost.
I feel TATA would surely offer AMT and by the looks of the test mules, i really like what I see! Would turn out to be a worthy upgrade for my GenX Nano XTA in future.
Bring it on TATA!!!!

Awesome news, but I don't understand why they are importing some components for it. What is an "Assy Panel Leaf Screen" anyway?

Edit: Googled it:

...a windshield assembly for a vehicle including a glass viewing area having a gasket formed along at least one edge thereof including an integral leaf screen.

That's a bad news for me as I was expecting this during 2016 Diwali.

Not even the Nexon and Hexa shown to the public ages ago have been confirmed for launch for this festive season. I doubt this 2017 launch date for Pelican as well.

My guess would be an Auto Expo 2018 unveil.

Well, I'm sure Tata wouldn't want to wait for such long! The momentum is good now with positive Tiago response. And they would want to capitalise on that!

Tata Motors seems to have done away with the smiley grill on rear bumper.
It was the thing which I hated most on GenX Nano.

There are so many pictures doing the rounds with the external body image. I sincerely wish some internal clear images are also available. Much anticipated model.

I have had seen that. Was expecting something new, clear picture. Motor World should now concentrate on the interior snaps.

Re: The Pelican - Tata Motors' new small car based on the Nano

Pelican will be close to the, now stillborn, Nano Europa in terms of tech specs and dimensions. The Europa was destined for Continental Europe launch in 2011-12
The Nano Europa was a very sound product, understood all the weak points of the earlier Nano, (pre GenX that is), and rectified them.
Nano Europa, because it was destined for European shores, was even package protected for the integration of ABS, ESP, Traction Control. The Body - In - White was also reinforced and upgraded to handle European crash regulations.
The engine was 800xxxx cc, triple. Power and torque outputs were competitive. Tata's also toyed around with a mild turbocharged variant with pretty good output levels.

Unfortunately, the Europa project got scuppered because the internal cost targets were ruthlessly tough and it became impossible to meet them. Inflationary pressures, a sluggish European economy and a tepid EU car market did not favour the Europa project either.

How much of these will percolate down to, let's say "NANO GEN-3" remains to be seen. The entry level car market in India, although extremely price sensitive, I feel personally, is on the cusp of a change.

There are two types of people considering entry level cars now : One is a first time buyer and the second buyer is looking at the entry level because he or she wants an "additional car" for the family.
And the numbers for this segment are not small. Of the 10,000 odd Renault KWID's selling per month, almost half of it goes as an add-on car for the family. And 85% of KWID's that are being sold, including the 1.0L, are top end variants - with airbags. Which at Rs 5lakh odd rupees on - road is certainly not "a cheap car"

And it is this segment TML has to target. These people already own a vehicle, possibly a premium hatch or a sedan. They are well versed on vehicle safety, fitments and contents. They prefer finesse and class and would not mind paying a premium to get a set of basic premium and safety features.

And now comes the problem: perception. brand perception. and this is where TML has its work cut out - especially with a NANO and its positioning in the minds of the populace.

With the TIAGO, Tata Motors has demonstrated that it is capable of producing genuinely good products. And the public has responded to it as well. From what i hear from little birdies, the Tiago Sedan, Hexa and NEXON will push the quality envelope even higher. Engineering seems to have delivered, now its up to Marketing to do its bit.

Otherwise the poor Pelican will be relegated to the side of the pond, pecking away at the flotsam, feeding itself, to survive another day. Hope that won't happen.
