Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

TATA is the Nr. 2 auto manufacturer for Dec-23 as Hyundai's impending facelift Creta launch is in Jan.

Hyundai's domestic sale stands at 42,750.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Went to Tata Motors showroom today in Bangalore on Sarjapur Rd (opp start of Hosa/Jail Rd) to test drive the Tiago AMT. The salesman was least interested, and appeared totally unenthusiastic. Worse, he said their valuer wasn't in at that time to assess my i10 that I had brought in for a trade-in. This was at 10.30 am! Such an attitude goes against their ambition to be PV#2 in India!

Anyway, coming back to my query ...
He had me sign a form that said that I'll be liable for any damage/accident during the test drive.

Is this normal? I thought dealerships had insurance for such things. Why should my insurance kick in for such things?

I immediately declined the test drive and walked out. The dealership lost a potential customer.

This is standard for all the companies, not sure though how insurance kicks in if an accident occurs or how much one needs to shell out though.

If it is any consolation, let me share my experience with PV #1. Earlier today, I called the biggest Maruti dealer in our city. After 2 no reply attempt, my third call went to an IVRS, asking me mention my request. I wanted a TD and was ready to visit their showroom after confirming the availability of the TD car. I will give them the benefit of doubt for today being Jan 1, a quasi-holiday.

Even if you sign a form, how will your insurance work ? Your insurance is for your car! Insurance is taken for cars right? Or am I missing something?

You have a point. In India, the insurance is tied to the car (and drivers driving that car), not to the person for driving any car.

So I guess that means the test drive form implied that I'd be responsible out of my pocket for any damages that occur during the testdrive. And I'm hearing some posts in this thread say that that is the norm for all car makes/models/dealerships in India. That sounds very unacceptable to me. What am I missing?

I'd have thought dealerships ought to have had some kind of "testdrive insurance" that they pay and subscribe to. Why put the onus on customers?!?

I believe it is the first time TaMo has crossed 50k in a month in PV sales.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Such a small lineup and a lot many gaps to be filled. I get the EV push and it has been rewarding, but the company is totally absent in many important market segments.

- Utilitarian SUV to compete against the likes of Bolero/Scorpio
- 3 row MUV/MPV competing against Ertiga/Carens
- It's small car lineup ie. Tiago/Tigor is now 7-8 years old with no major refresh
- Totally absent in the sedan race
