Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

I am curious to know that now Maruti has launched all it's SUV/Crossover (Vitara/Grand Vitara/Fronx/Jimny) what next in the coming two three years will it do? Will they have better hybrid versions of these models or bring new models altogether? Will there be newer SUV's in the future? I am hoping they get the S-cross badge again.

I think their next big move is EVs. And in usual Maruti style, they are planning to do it at scale. They've already setting up a battery manufacturing plant in India. Prototypes of the eVX have been spotted testing in Poland recently. Supposed to be a platform co-developed with Toyota and will likely spawn a Toyota version. I'd give it 2 years for all this to unravel.

Global Unveil of the Swift will happen in 2023.

Yes and with that, they will eat the competition for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The success of the Vitara/Hyryder is a sneak peek on how they can get the product and pricing right. A hatchback thats built ground up as an EV would be cost effective and also perfectly packaged compared to cars like Tiago, Nexon which are fundamentally ICE cars with the battery pack and motor shoe horned into them. Better efficiency, reliability and with a pricing advantage.

Couldn't agree more, as Shimoo said, they will do it at a scale, now the volumes are too low by Maruti standards, when they come they will make a big splash. It is not difficult for Maruti to replicate what Tata did in the EV space, but they are holding back, they must be having some other big plans. The only hindrance for them can be frozen supply chain capacities and contracts by the time they enter the EV space, but that might not be an issue for Maruti, suppliers will be more than willing to supply to Maruti. Going forward it will be difficult for Tata to defend their lead.

Maruti Suzuki India appoints Yukihiro Yamashita as Joint Managing Director, Engineering and Quality Assurance

Quote:
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country's leading automobile manufacturer, has appointed Yukihiro Yamashita as the new Joint Managing Director, Engineering and Quality Assurance. The appointment comes following the resignation of Shigetoshi Torii, who served as a Non-Executive Director of the company until July 31, 2023.

he began his journey at Nippon Denso Co., Ltd., later known as DENSO Corporation, in 1990. Throughout his tenure at DENSO, he assumed various significant roles, including Automobile Powertrain System Development and Powertrain Development Planning.

Joining Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) in 2018 as Vice Executive General Manager of Automobile Engineering, Yamashita quickly climbed the ranks... as Director, Senior Managing Officer, and Chief Technology Officer in 2021.
Toyota (Denso) guy, first to Suzuki Japan and then to Maruti Suzuki points to greater integration between the three companies. I think its good for Indian customers.
