re: 2017 Mercedes E-Class caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 56.15 lakh!

Not sure if this is the most sensible move for MB. A large number of buyers in this segment just want a "branded" car, without really caring about anything else. With the E being so much higher priced than it's generic competitors from Audi and BMW, it's difficult to see it attracting the same interest for the "E" badge.

There are two cars with different grill. One is the sport and I think the other is the luxury grill. So I am hoping they will launch the luxury version with backseat package, logical since it is the LWB.

Spotted this car at the merc plant yesterday. I think they'll launch LWB in diesel and normal E in petrol. Launch is imminent.

The news is that they are not launching the normal version in India. Did you see the normal version also? Did you see one with the luxury grill? In the pictures both seem to be LWB.

I did spot two cars. One was shorter with rear quaterglass not covered. The other one had its rear quarter glass covered and I'm sure that this is the LWB.

The smaller of the two cars could be the C class also since I couldn't make out the exact crease lines and stuff. The modern Mercs all look the same.

That being said, 99% positive on the launch of LWB E class. The normal version is just a speculation from my side.

It's going to be the LWB with the full rear seat package is what I hear. Also the launch could be delayed till around the GST time.

Checked out the 2017 E Class W213 at Ulm, Germany over the summer while I was there for a business trip. Looks a stunner and should be a fabulous product overall. A mini W222 S Class.

The India launch of the new E Class should be between February-March 2017. Three engines coming up, E200, E220d and E350d. Initial lot of cars will be CBU Launch Editions followed by standard CKD's later. Pricing of the new E Class would be between 60-75L.

Meanwhile, Eastern India's first W213 E Class Launch Edition has already been booked for someone at Team-Bhp.
Re-quoting myself from this thread:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/intern...nveiled-6.html

Some more concrete details on the car and the launch since the training for the dealership teams have already started.

- Only LWB E Class coming for now
- CKD units
- Launch between Mid Feb-Early March
- Only the E350d and E200 Petrol to be launched initially
- The E220d should launch in May-June
- Pricing should range approximately between 60-75 lakhs.
- No launch edition variant as such
- Prominent feature differences between the E350d and the E200 will be the following: Air Suspension with Air Body Control, Burmester sound system, in built navigation, higher screen resolution, voice command, command online, built in memory, 360' camera and some more nit bits.
- Rear seats will be reclining like the Mercedes Maybach.

re: 2017 Mercedes E-Class caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 56.15 lakh!

Mercedes Benz E Class EWB caught undisguised, at some dealer's yard.

Quick details:
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB was first unveiled at Beijing Motor Show in April 2016.
  • It's extended 140 mm more than regular model. i.e: length of 5063 mm and wheelbase of 3079 mm.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB will mark the entry of first ever long-wheelbase saloon in this segment in India.
  • Under the hood, it's expected to incorporate option of V6 3.0L Turbocharged Diesel and 4-Cyl 2.0L Petrol motor.
  • Expect to shell out a premium of anywhere upto Rs.10 Lakh over regular variants for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB (V213)

What sense does it make to stick a sport grill on a LWB luxury sedan. Such a big mistake. I hope they at least give the luxury grill as an option. What potential buyer is expecting from this car is a mini S Class, not a long C Class.

re: 2017 Mercedes E-Class caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 56.15 lakh!

This is going to be such a disappointing launch , I truly was waiting for this car for my Hubby, but would not ever touch a LWB car, I have a big problem with how badly its rear compartment is just extended without much thought, being a car which is predominatly meant for China (And now India) I hate how some components come in and the fit and finish of the rear door from the inside just does not feel nice, I sat in one in Shanghai and while the space may tempt those looking for a large legroom, there is nothing beyond that if anything Few pointers I noticed are a hideous cup holder just placed onto the front centre console which gets extended and the extended components there and on door are so bad with the centre console being carpeted only until where the original SWB console is and rest is all plastic, one loses a lot more with the LWB as the new E is truly after a long time a worth 5 competitor.

Ideally could Mercedes-India not have just launched it with 1 model in SWB? Even CBU would be ok.

I wish they had a lineup like this for India

LWB - E200 / E220d / E350d
SWB - E350d / E43

And why no real leather? Why not include Remote Park considering Mercedes has done a lot better job with implementation compared to the Laggy key that BMW has given me. I wish and hope they add better seats and memory seats in the front as so many new Mercedes models in India omit it with no valid excuse.

I will buy the new 5, as currently there is no car in India I end up liking after using the new 7 for last 4 months daily. I hope they launch 540i as I believe M550i is not going to be made in RHD.

God Bless,

I would agree.

The regular E Class is a good all rounder. It is spacious enough for 4. It is nice enough for the self driven role, and equally good when you sit in the back and let your driver take the wheel. It has adequately high seating, good ground clearance, good reliability, reasonable resale value, and almost everything that a potential buyer in the segment looks for.

Now with this LWB only variant, I am not sure how it would fare for self driving owners. How the increased length is going to affect the car's dynamics is a big question.

But I have a feeling that at least some of the potential S Class buyers would look towards the LWB E Class.

Cityvic,

Thank you for an exact date I believe you know a lot about the launch is there any way they will allow an access to a SWB car? Any plans for CBU or Maybe E43?

Thank you so much,

Yeldo,
I am not an expert but when you compare Kerbweight of SWB cars on Chinese website the SWB E200 is 1600 KG and LWB is 1800 KG, which means the cars will be quite poor in terms of dynamics I really believe since these cars are only intended for developing economies quality of parts used to extending the cars are not of the greatest kind. ( my assumption ) Another point is LWB E has so many dirty plastic extensions at the back I was truly looking forward to this car but no ways now in this LWB form.

Just for reference S500 vs S500L the difference in weight is 1995 Kg vs 2015 KG (Only 20 KG)

Jusy pointing how well a global car is engineered versus something from Beijing Benz.

We will know a bit more later this month. Thanks for your pointers, we will look into the fit and finish of the India cars.

My guess is Mercedes want to cream the market first, and understand the 5 series pricing before bringing in the regular E class. Another issue is the current govt diesel policy. Re-engineering the older engines may not be worth it and with the government moving faster with BS VI diesel, it might make sense to bring in the latest engines which are supposed to be pretty good
