Re: 2017 Mercedes E-Class caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 56.15 lakh!

I don't really think that this LWB E class is going to cannibalise S class sales. Its not just space that an S class owner looks for but snob value as well. That said the S is still a lot more equipped than E so they are not appealing to the same customer. If I had my eye set on a luxo barge in the S / 7 series category, I doubt I would be swayed by anything in a segment lower even if its offering similar space.

2017 Mercedes E-Class caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 56.15 lakh!

Mercedes is getting ready to launch the E220d LWB. It will get their new 2 L engine good for 194 BHP and 400 nm torque mated to the new 9G auto.

Looks like they are going to time it to the new 5 Series launch. This might be priced aggressively to match or even under cut the new 5 series pricing. Given that the E 200 launched at 52 lakhs the E220 may be priced a couple of lakhs more. This will probably go head to head with the 520. Game on.

My only grouse with Mercedes is their production schedules. With so many of their models doing good , the wait times could be endless, especially if you have a choice of colour which isn't in stock.

Where did you get this news from? We were told the E220d may not come anytime soon as the new engine needs to be tuned for indian fuel and isn't even made here like the older engine or the E350d engine.

Viddy, this information is absolutely correct. Infact the MB India officials and the Cal MB dealership staff have confirmed the same as well. Yes, the 2.0L diesel engine is new but they have been testing a tweaked version for a quite a bit already on Indian conditions with Indian fuel.

In the meanwhile, we have switched our booking from 1 Silver E350d to 2 E200's, a Silver and White. Should hopefully be delivered by this month end.

Re-quoting an old post of mine from the previous page.

The line up will be complete in May-June when the E220d launches around 7-8 lakhs cheaper than the E350d.

Waiting to get delivery of our Iridium Silver E350d next week. Shall update pictures and a review soon.
Mod Note: Our 2017 Mercedes E-Class Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!
