Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

I too have a list of features just like those mentioned above. Features like Auto folding mirrors, rear camera are extremely desirable. But would I cancel my purchase for the lack of them? I doubt it. Simple example being, when I bought the Ecosport AT in 2017, it was the top end variant at the time. But even though it came with 6 air bags and all, someone in the Ford office decided that auto folding ORVMs and a rear camera are not important features. It is in scenarios such as this that you are compelled to buy a car regardless as it is still the best package out there.

So I suggest we merge the thread into this exsiitng thread: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...-next-car.html (The Must Have Features in Your Next Car)

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

With the launch of classic looking bikes recently and the bikers seem to love them just as well (you no longer need to be RE to make good looking classic bikes), it makes me wonder if car buyers would be interested in buying a retro cool car with no features whatsover. (Apart from mandatory safety stuff)

Currently that is just limited to Mahindra Thar, there is certainly a lot of fanfare for it and it has no modern features to talk about.

I think there is a small yet significant number of people who are ready to buy modern classics that looks cool Inside out and has no features to talk about.

I for one would love to drive a brand new Fiat 1100 or even the Padmini or the Old Jeeps.

Must have features.

1. Temperature guage
2. Seat Belts
3. All the warning lamps
4. A steering with only a horn button
5. Stereo should have a large volume Knob in the middle.

With Android Auto app installed on some phone, I can manage the rest of the things.

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

I really, really miss Android Auto (none of my cars are new enough to have it) and would love to have that level of integration in my next car.

A top-notch safety kit (multiple airbags, ESP etc.) are also a must-have.

Frankly though, I don't think features will decide my next car as we usually buy only the top variant and even compact SUVs (e.g. EcoSport / XUV300) & hatchbacks (e.g. i20) are superbly equipped today.

My next car's must haves :
1) latest infotainment tech, so to say wireless Carplay and charging, etc. and virtual cockpit.
2) autonomous driving tech
3) no sort of hybrid tech at all
4) don't mind missing out on a sunroof
5) 18" wheels with a good brand of tyre from the factory.
6) ZF 8 speed gearbox or may be by then the latest iteration of the ZF Box.
7) full dark brown or black interiors including a dark headliner.
8) Actual exhaust silencer pipes facing outward and not at the bottom and without any fake embellishments just like every other Mercedes car in the market these days.

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

If I were buying a brand new car for myself, it must contain a meaty petrol motor and have the full suite of safety features; multiple airbags, antilock brakes and a stability program, and in this day and age of android this and apple that and auto headlights and auto wipers and all, I must have the ability to find the perfect driving position i.e: tilt and telescopic steering. Oh and it's India so a good aircon is always a must. I guess I am a very simple man

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

A lot of you have mentioned a lot of points. Few of them (Airbags & ABS) are standard features now in 2019 and don't need to be mentioned separately I feel. So not putting them down here.

Few other features to list out would be (in no particular order of importance) :

1. ESP
2. Reverse Parking Camera.
3. A good ICE with Android Auto/Apple Carplay support.
4. TPMS.
5. Auto Climate Control.
6. All seats with Head-rests.
7. Steering mounted controls for Music/Phone.
8. All 4 disc brakes.

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

I thought of replying to this thread as A PURE PETROL HEAD(PPH). Hence, A PPH in me is replying to this thread. No offense to anyone.

For me, only 2 things are important.
1. ABC (Accelerator, Brake and Clutch)
2. Steering wheel

All other parts are accessories only, including Fuel Tank and Engine . (Add Wheels also as accessories).

As far as the car runs, I do not worry about whether engine is present ? OR fuel is required. Only thing is that is ABSOLUTELY necessary is, the car should run and stop when I want.

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

For my money I can do without all other frills but would like to have the following:-

1) Air-con
2) Power windows
3) Power steering

Of the above only the air-con would be the deal breaker - no air-con, no car!

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

Features without which I won't buy a car:-
  • Automatic transmission- The DSG has spoiled me for life
  • Steering controls/buttons - The controls on my Vento have made me aware of how useful and important this is, avoids all the distraction yet no let-up on the fun
  • Integrated / Android Auto or Car Play - I do not have it yet, but cannot undermine the importance of having one
  • Safety kit - no compromise
  • Good suspension - again, I appreciate VW for this. Given the fact that my long drives / trips will only increase, this is one "feature" that I cannot oversee

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

Thinking about it, it's going to be -
- ABS, EBD, ESP, HLA
- Either 6+ airbags on an NCAP 4-rated car or 4+ airbags on an NCAP 5-rated car. No go for anything that has an unstable body shell.
- Android Auto
- Good sounding speakers
- Rear parking camera
- Automatic AC

There are a lot of other nice-to-haves, but a car missing any of the above is a deal breaker for me.

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

Hyundai have more often pioneered many segment first features. I had experienced this first hand on my first 2 Korean cars. However, IMO Germans really know how to provide the features that are the most useful for daily needs.

So one thing is for sure, my next car will also be a German!!

The features that is a must are:
- At least a 2.0 liter P/D engine.
- All round disc brakes, ABS, ABD, TCS, and so on.
- Memory seats.
- LED/Bi-xenon Projector Headlamps.
- Minimal or no chrome.
- Built-in navigation.
- Sun/Moon roof (not a must, but good to have).

Re: What are some features without which you won't buy a car?

My criteria for a new car would be (and most are carried over from my current purchase as well)

1. Airbags, ABS, EBD
2. Headrests on at least 4 seats
3. 60:40 Split seats
4. Rear Wiper
5. Audio and phone controls on steering
6. Armrest for front and rear passengers.
8. Auto AC
9. Rear AC Vents
10. Auto Dimming Interior mirrors

It's really annoying how many manufacturers misses out on some of these easy to implement stuff, specially close to and above the 10 lakhs range.
