Looks like a station wagon, no? Kodaiq looks more appealing. VW is continuously losing battle against Skoda. For a CBU, this is well priced though.

There is something faulty about the aspect ratio of that image. Don't remember the normal Tiguan being that low in height.

But a good price, yes

I'm not of that opinion though! Unless the third-row is important, I wonder who will be interested in the Allspace with the X1 facelift priced from Rs. 35.90 lakh onwards! And in typical BMW fashion - even the X1 will have discounts by year-end onwards.

Of the limited number of customers interested otherwise - Skoda Kodiaq makes for one good package too.

The Tiguan AllSpace 2.0 TSI costs 39.58 lakhs on the road Mumbai (source, carwale).

The Kodiaq Style is 40.09 lakhs. Who the hell would buy a car that's more boring looking, has poor presence and bumpy ride quality? The Kodiaq is superior in every way.

Will be interesting to see how Skoda prices the 2.0 TSI.

After seeing the Allspace pictures, I appreciate the 5 seater Tiguan even more and would have preferred VW to keep both versions on sale. The 5 seater was a better choice for personal use. I guess it was elbowed out to make space for T-roc.
This compares with the lower Kodiaq Style but has the virtual cockpit which is there only on the Kodiaq L&K.

Compared to the Skoda it misses out on the simply clever features like the umbrellas, rear sunblinds, rear headrest extenders etc. I also did not see the mention of premium audio with subwoofer. The Kodiaq gets the Canton system.

What's interesting is the price is similar to the Kodiaq Style 2.0 diesel. The Kodiaq diesel is on it's way out and will also get the TSI engine in a few months.

The price is not bad for a CBU but it's sort of in no man's land and frankly speaking I am not even sure what the point of getting the Allspace was when the same car is parked in the Skoda showrooms and is frankly better.

The regular Tiguan with a 2.0L TSI would have made far more sense. It would have appealed to those looking for sporty performance in a compact package. Those wanting a bigger more spacious SUV could have opted for the Kodiaq. Now both cars will cannibalise each other not supplement.

Exactly! I went and picked up the Kodiaq once VW confirmed the Allspace with 2.0L TSI and no regular Tiguan with 2.0L TSI. If they were getting the smaller Tiguan with 2.0L TSI, I would have waited.

From the Volkswagen India website, technical specifications of Tiguan AllSpace.

I don't know how to interpret the Rare brakes. As in English, "rarely breaks" or in German "partially cooked".

Just goes to show the increasingly poor quality of written and spoken English in India. Not expected from VW though.

I just compared the feature list of the Tiguan Allspace and the Tiguan Allspace does compare very close to the Kodiaq Style but the features are really mixed:

What the Tiguan Allspace gets additional over the Kodiaq:
1. Front heated seats
2. Foldable tray table at the back
3. 2 extra USB ports (3 total vs Kodiaq single 1 at the front)
4. fancy front head restraints which have adjust horizontally as well as up/down
5. Virtual cockpit
6. Drawer under front passenger seat

What the lowest spec Kodiaq Style gets extra over the Tiguan Allspace:
1. 9 airbags vs 7 in the VW (rear side airbags additional in Skoda)
2. 10 speaker Canton audio vs 8 in the VW. (Skoda gets the subwoofer and front centre speaker)
3. Front passenger seat electric adjust with 3 memory presets
4. Rear window side sun shades
5. Umbrella in front doors
6. Auto dimming ORVM's

VW seems to be on a wind down mode in India, why import this when 7 seat Xovers are in demand, like Hector and Harrier planning to come with 7 seats. VW could have made this in India and priced it alongside a Hector/Compass/Harrier 7 seater variant. 40L can get us a lot bigger and capable vehicles.

The features above (especially the first 3) are far more useful compared to the Tiguan Allspace.

The only reason I can think for VW to bring this car in is to provide a path for existing customers to stay in the family ? Instead of a Passat, this Allspace could have more appeal for a family. Also this keeps interest in the brand alive.

Looks could be another aspect, I prefer the looks of the Tiguan Allspace over the Kodiak.

Would wait for 12-18 months and consider when discounts come into play

This thinking may not hold good in case of these CBU imports .

As a (unfortunately recently merged) single legal entity, SAVIPL can only import 2500 CBU vehicles in any financial year. Given this restriction coupled with the detailed upfront planning required at the EU mother plants, if VW realizes that the Allspace has bombed or is bombing, they will simply discontinue it overnight. Heavy discounting, I feel is not going to be the norm in such boutique vehicles like the Allspace or the T-Roc.

I hope I am proved wrong though!

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace drive review.

The third row seems to be almost unusable by any means.

According to the reviewer, ride quality is better than Kodiaq. Overall, the car seems to be a great fun to drive. Cramped last row seat seems to be the only fly in the ointment (apart from exorbitant price and possible low FE)
