I hope Hyundai launches this in India sooner rather than later. With the 7OO carpet bombing the 15-25 lakh on road price range and exerting pressure on the Creta as well as Alcazar, the Tucson will be worthy contender to try and pull away the top of line XUV customers to the more premium offering of the Tucson. If they can bring in their petrol hybrid as well that would be a true differentiator to every other crossover being sold in the 20-40 lakh on road price bracket.

I am looking for a decent and comfortable rear seat (for chauffer driven) but small in size (5 seater, easy to drive when only 2 people). Right now XUV700 is my only option. Compass is too expensive, VW/Skoda are only Petrol which doesnt make sense for a highway car and C5 isn't too much of an upgrade on the XUV to pay 13-14L more. I havn't considered the Tucson, simply because it sucks that the new gen is available in other countries (I think it launched in Nepal few days back) and not here. The Tucson 2021 would be perfect vehicle if the rear seats are comfortable.
There is literally nothing else below 50L for such a use case except these cars.

All new Tucson will be available in 4 attractive variants- GL 2WD- MT (Petrol), GLS 2WD- AT (Petrol), GLX 2WD- AT (Petrol) and GLX AWD- AT (Diesel).

Convenience features include a 10.25-inch infotainment system, Bose premium speakers, multi-air mode, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, height-adjustable automatic power tailgate, ambient mood lights, Shift-by-Wire and Four-Wheel-Drive system (4WD), large 18-inch alloy wheels, and wireless smartphone charging, etc.

In terms of safety, the all-new Tucson provides an expanded range of Hyundai’s SmartSense technologies including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), and Rear-Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), etc.

Available in both petrol and diesel engine options – a 2.0-litre petrol motor (154 bhp/192 Nm) and a 2.0-litre diesel (183 bhp/417 Nm).

Quite surprised to see this car getting launched in Nepal before India. Isn't Indian market bigger and more lucrative than Nepal?

There are lot of folks waiting for new Tucson to be launched in India. However there is no news on India launch yet. We are not seeing any test mules either!

Good part however is the launch of Diesel engine along with Petrol.

A very competent product and once launched will surely be more expensive than current model sold. Looking at 25 lakhs and above segment there is only one dominant player Jeep and once XUV 700 is launched it will occupy some space. For those who don’t need such big cars, this would be a great alternate choice to pick.

With hardly any advertising spend there is decent traction on the units being sold here in India lately.

Why is Hyundai dragging its feet on launch in India? Could be a case that their current set of priorities are with evaluating Genesis brand feasibility in the country.

There isn’t enough volumes to focus on immediate launch? It would be interesting if one can get hold of numbers of units being sold in India vs Nepal.

Hyundai should sooner launch the new model in our market. If marketing does a decent job and price is kept in check this has potential to spring a surprise.

Launched in Nepal Tucson and Santa Fe are excellent cars and different class from Creta. Sadly we don't get to experience them like rest of the world.

The all new Tata Safari is priced at 81 odd lakhs NPR (51L INR). I don't think it'll be priced so exorbitantly.

Hyundai may price the base variant a couple of lakhs above the alcazar.

Although I must ask, why is Hyundai delaying this in India? The all new Jeep Compass and Citroen C5 Aircross could use some competition.

Slightly OT : If Hyundai launched the Alcazar with the 2.0 diesel engine albeit with a lower state of tune, it would have been excellent.

Sticker shock is just an aspect of the ownership. In sometime you'll be seeing a thread like this on the XUV700 also:

Indian Brands, be it Tata or Mahindra don't remove all rough edges at launch and they wait for the client (rather than their personnel) to point it out and set out removing one by one. Hapless first batch owners of their products are their true blue QC team.
