re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

the 1.0 litre booster jet engine is making a comeback, Great news! but it essentially means Maruti is also going along with the trend of downsized 3-cylinder turbo petrols.

re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

I think there is some confusion about the images being reported here.
The images by TOI Auto and Rushlane with 5 lug nuts are of the Yaris Cross. The one by Autocar India is the Baleno Based Crossover. We can see the curvacious silhouette of the Baleno underneath the Autocar Scoop. That is the real Baleno Cross YTB.

Interesting, nothing coupe about it as it is very clearly Baleno with changed front fascia. Strong hybrid ? Toyota as well ? will we call it Yaris then ?

The car in post 25 is different from those in 29 and 30. Just look at the rear window line and you can see that they're different.

My take is that the Baleno Cross (post 25) and Yaris Cross (post 29 and 30) are different models being tested. Baleno Cross definitely is a new model and with Yaris Cross maybe a powertrain or something else being tested.

The futuro-e concept cars looks quite cool to me. Will we ever see such a car in India?

Also, why is TOI reporting this as a rival to premium versions of the Venue and Sonet?? Isn't the whole point of Maruti bringing the YTB based on a cheaper platform to the market with a turbocharged sub-1.2L engine is to price it lower than Brezza??

Some media agencies can be pretty stupid

The car being camouflaged indicates it could be the Toyota version of the YTB, a chopped Yaris Cross in length having the boosterjet?

Baleno - gone with the wind. I am not able to find it but I think it received 0 stars.

Here is the list of ratings of cars sold in India. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/road-...ml#post5296632 (2014-2020: Global NCAP's Safer Cars For India initiative - 8 out of 10 safest car brands are Indian!)

It is true for the old Baleno, but the current facelift testing is not done so this data is incorrect

Facelift from Maruti is mostly cosmetic. Dont think they would have done any structural changes to the car. So doesnt look like the crash safety rating would improve.

It will be amazing if they name it ZEN. But only if it gets boosterjet engine.

re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

Is it only me or others also feel that this is over 4 meters and hence not Baleno Crossover,
It has similar front but it is a different car, I see a lot of similarity with Yaris Cross

It is audacious from Suzuki to enter 4.2 to 4.4meter segment with 2 new cars (This one & Grand Vitara)

re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

Maruti could be on a product onslaught here in the SUV space.

This thread has two compact SUV's in camouflage. One is Toyota Yaris Cross and the other is the YTB (coupe SUV)

There could be multiple reasons to believe that Maruti is gearing multiple launches in overlapping segments:

1. Maruti Suzuki could launch the Yaris Cross as a rebadged version (with the booster-jet engine), or a Strong Hybrid priced at the lower end of GV.
2. As the car is being tested close to Maruti Suzuki's plant it is being engineered by MS.
3. Toyota Yaris Hatch too could feature a similar strategy with possible launch in India in strong Hybrid format.
4. Maruti YTB will be the sub compact coupe style SUV which will have a Toyota sibling later.
